The Quizeum (8×30’) – the quiz show that visits and celebrates some of the UK’s unique and compelling museums and collections – returns on Monday 2 November at 8.30pm on BBC Four, hosted by Griff Rhys Jones.
Every week two teams of competing experts will pit their wits against each other at some of the UK’s most eclectic collections and museums – revealing some of the startling stories, fascinating facts and incredible artefacts along the way.Joining the established panel of competitors this year include author and historian Simon Sebag Montefiore; broadcaster and writer Helen Rosslyn; and comedian and broadcaster Hardeep Singh Kohli. They will join familiar faces from the last series including Lars Tharp, historian and expert on Antiques Roadshow; art and cultural historian Janina Ramirez; and historian Kate Williams.
Griff Rhys Jones says: “I’m delighted that Quizeum is returning to BBC Four. It’s a hugely entertaining and intellectually diverting show to make and, I think, to watch. After all, it fits with everything that the BBC seeks to do – to entertain and to inform and be a little bit difficult too. We have many old friends returning to pit their wits against the artefacts, including Lars Tharp, Kate Williams and Nina Ramirez, some new rounds and lots of exciting museums – from little places like Stirling Smith in Stirling to big places like the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth. Lots of fascinating objects and some real brain teaser questions. Lots of guests from Kate Adie to Muriel Gray. I can’t wait.”
Cassian Harrison, Channel Editor, BBC Four, says: “I am delighted to announce that The Quizeum is returning for a second series. Like the last series it promises to be a banquet of fascinating facts and witty banter designed to show case some of the most interesting museums and historical collections in the land.”
Museums and collections visited this year include: The Burrell Collection in Glasgow, The Jewish Museum in London, The Imperial War Museum in London, The Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum in Stirling, The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, Royal Armouries, The Horniman Museum in London and V&A Museum of Childhood in London.
The Quizeum was commissioned from Modern Television by BBC Four Channel Editor Cassian Harrison and Mark Bell, Head of Arts Commissioning, BBC. The Executive Producer for the BBC is Aisling O’Connor and for Modern Television Andrew Fettis and Sarah Broughton.
