Sky1 has renewed Delicious for Series 2, to premiere late 2017/early 2018, with Dawn French and Emilia Fox reprising their roles, Sky confirms:
Two new Sky Original Productions are coming to Sky 1 in 2017, with Dawn French and Emilia Fox returning for a second series of delectable drama Delicious, and Jack Whitehall hitting screens in a brand-new action comedy, Bounty Hunters.
The return of Delicious follows a hugely successful first serving of the drama in December 2016, which delivered an average cumulative audience of 1.87 million, making it the most watched UK drama series on Sky 1 for the year. The series saw Dawn French and Emilia Fox entangled in a compelling tale of love, sex, deceit and betrayal, and the second helping will reunite them with writer Dan Sefton (Good Karma Hotel, Secret Diary of a Call Girl), director Clare Kilner (The Wedding Date) and creators Bandit Television, part of Endemol Shine Group, for Sky 1.
Comedy fans will get to witness Jack Whitehall (Fresh Meat, Bad Education) and Academy Award nominee Rosie Perez (Do the Right Thing, White Men Can’t Jump) pair up in new action adventure comedy Bounty Hunters.
The show sees posh, uptight Brit Barnaby Walker (Whitehall) sorting out his family’s cash-strapped antiques business after his father is hospitalised following a mysterious accident. However, when he unwittingly buys a blood antiquity looted from the war-torn Middle East, he sets off a chain of events that nothing could prepare him for. Cue help in the shape of tough New Yorker and bounty hunter Rita Morales (Perez), whose own world is also in turmoil: she’s on the run, having killed a member of a Mexican cartel. As the dynamic duo team up viewers will be taken on a comedy journey stretching from New York to London to Mexico.
The show is written by Jack Whitehall and Freddy Syborn, who co-wrote Bad Education (both the series and movie), directed by Will Sinclair (Poldark, Vera, Misfits), executive produced by Ben Cavey (Bad Education, Benidorm, Psychobitches, Grandma’s House) and produced by Pippa Brown (Bad Education, Psychobitches) for Cave Bear Productions.
Dawn French said: “I am utterly delighted that there will be more of Delicious. It is that rare thing where everything from every department comes together well, and Dan is already cooking up some remarkable storylines. I can’t wait to be back in Gina’s apron, up to my elbows in flour and up to my neck in trouble. Bring it on!”
Emilia Fox said: “I am absolutely thrilled that there is going to be a second helping of Delicious! It was a delight to work on in every way and the response from the audience was such a joy. I can’t wait to be back working with Dawn and the wonderful cast and crew on more Delicious storylines from Dan. Thank you to Sky for inviting us back!”
Jack Whitehall said: “We are very excited to be about to start production on Bounty Hunters for Sky 1. It’s a really ambitious show which brings together my and Freddy Syborn’s love of comedy and action movies, so we really hope we can pull it off. But mostly I’m excited about Rosie Perez joining us. She is an amazing actress, and I can’t wait to see the Queen of Brooklyn pacing the mean streets of Wimbledon.”
Adam MacDonald, director of Sky 1, said: “We can’t wait to welcome Delicious and Bounty Hunters to Sky 1 in 2017. Delicious delivered our largest average audience for a Sky 1 original drama in 2016, so we knew we had to put it back on the menu. Viewers can expect more love, more lies and more lip-smacking dishes to be served up next time around. And with the unveiling of Bounty Hunters and its incredible cast, we’re set for an exciting series full of thrills, spills and laughter when it airs exclusively on Sky 1.”
Delicious was commissioned by Adam MacDonald, director of Sky 1 and Anne Mensah, Sky’s head of drama. It will be executive produced by Phillippa Giles for Bandit Television and Anna Ferguson for Sky, and will be distributed by Endemol Shine International. Bounty Hunters was commissioned by Adam MacDonald and Jon Mountague, Sky’s head of comedy.
Delicious and Bounty Hunters will be available to Sky and NOW TV customers. Series 1 is available to watch now on demand on Sky and with a NOW TV Entertainment Pass. (Sky)
