Supernatural might be ending soon, but the long-mooted spinoff series could yet continue the show’s legacy, CW president Mark Pedowitz tells EW:
“We’ve bounced ideas over the years. If there is something that the creators and the studio want to do in terms of developing a spin-off of Supernatural, we’re open to hear it and we’re open to develop it, because I do believe there is a world where you can have a second show like this.”
However, Pedowitz is wary of introducing a spinoff while the main series is still alive:
“Does a spin-off in some ways diminish the mothership. What is the involvement, if any, of the boys in a spin-off?”
Might a spinoff might be more likely in a post-SPN world? Showrunner Andrew Dabb seems to think so:
“I would say [the spinoff] something that exists in the background for us right now. This show is our priority. We would never want to do something that would weaken the show. There are certainly characters on the show that we think are really strong and could have a TV show and I would watch that TV show, but they also fulfill a very important role on our show. So in terms of saying there’s an active spin-off in development right now, there isn’t.”
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the survival status of Supernatural and the arrival of the potential spinoff series…
