Today, Sky 1 announces that much-anticipated new superhero drama Supergirl is coming to the channel, adding to a line-up of action-packed family entertainment that’s already a big hit with Sky 1 customers.
From Berlanti Productions (The Flash, Arrow) in association with Warner Bros. Television, Supergirl, which comes to the channel on Thursday 29 October at 8pm, is an epic action adventure for the whole family.
Adam MacDonald, director of Sky 1, commented: “I am delighted to announce Supergirl is coming to Sky 1. We’ve already seen in the success of The Flash and Arrow that comic-book characters are a big hit with our customers, and with this fresh, fast-paced new series, we’re giving them another sure-fire superhero smash.”
Born on the doomed planet of Krypton, the young Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist, Whiplash, Glee) escaped at the same time as her cousin, who would later become known as Superman.
Growing up protected and raised by her adopted family, the Danvers, but in the shadow of her foster sister, she learned to hide the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin, trying so hard to fit in that she doesn’t stand out at all. But then one day, while living in National City and working as an assistant for media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart, Ally McBeal), all that changes as she embraces her superhuman abilities to become the hero she was always destined to be: Supergirl.
With the help of Daily Planet photographer James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks, True Blood), her bioengineer sister Alex (Chyler Leigh, Grey’s Anatomy) and the knowledge of the top-secret Department of Extra-Normal Operations and its head Hank Henshaw (David Harewood, Homeland), Supergirl takes to the skies to protect the world from extraterrestrial menace and high-tech villains in this heartfelt, funny and truly spectacular superhero series.
Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter are executive producers of Supergirl, which is based on the characters from DC Comics. Supergirl is distributed around the globe by Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution.
