EXCLUSIVE: CBS has quietly renewed Young Sheldon for Season 2, multiple insiders have exclusively revealed to RenewCancelTV.
About Young Sheldon:
For 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, it isn’t easy growing up in East Texas. Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are king. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. His father, George, is struggling to find his way as a high school football coach and as father to a boy he doesn’t understand. Sheldon’s mother, Mary, fiercely protects and nurtures her son in a town where he just doesn’t fit in. Sheldon’s older brother, Georgie, does the best he can in high school, but it’s tough to be cool when you’re in the same classes with your odd 9-year-old brother. Finally, there’s Sheldon’s twin sister, Missy, who sometimes resents all the attention Sheldon gets, but also remains the one person who can reliably tell Sheldon the truth. For 10 years on The Big Bang Theory, audiences have come to know the iconic, eccentric and extraordinary Sheldon Cooper. This single-camera, half-hour comedy gives us the chance to meet him in childhood, as he embarks on his innocent, awkward, and hopeful journey toward the man he will become.
The second season of the Big Bang Theory prequel series will premiere fall 2018.
UDPATE: Weeks after our exclusive announcement, CBS issued a press release regarding the renewal of Young Sheldon:
CBS announced today that the hit freshman comedy YOUNG SHELDON is the Network’s first renewal for the 2018-2019 broadcast season.
“YOUNG SHELDON has made a huge impact on our schedule in the short time it’s been on the air,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “While the show’s DNA is clearly rooted in THE BIG BANG THEORY, YOUNG SHELDON has staked out its own place in the TV universe with a unique creative tone, brilliant writing and a gifted multi-generational cast. We can’t wait to see Chuck, Steve, Jim and Todd’s vision for how the Cooper family deals with Sheldon growing a year older…and smarter.”
YOUNG SHELDON is the #1 new comedy in viewers (16.17m), adults 18-49 (3.3) and adults 25-54 (4.9), and is the #2 comedy in all of television (behind only THE BIG BANG THEORY). It has the best retention for any show ever out of THE BIG BANG THEORY and has the best delivery of any new comedy on any network since the 1999-2000 television season.
The half-hour, single-camera comedy series, which stars Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Raegan Revord, Montana Jordan and the voice of Jim Parsons, follows THE BIG BANG THEORY’S Sheldon Cooper (Armitage) at the age of 9, living with his family in east Texas and going to high school.
Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak serve as executive producers. YOUNG SHELDON is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Stay tuned as we now monitor the renew/cancel status of Young Sheldon SEASON 3…

I can’t stand that show!

This show is pretty bad and really ONLY works because of the time slot after Big Bang Theory. There’s not a single thing which is really likable here. If one is unfamiliar with Sheldon from Big Bang, I can’t imagine why one would be interested in this non-comedy sitcom to begin with. This is a dud and will only last as long as Big Bang Theory fans will put up with it. There’s no “pull” for the young male adult sex drive (Cuoco, Rauch) … there’s no intellectual “pull” for the science fans of BBT, there’s no underdog “pull” for those which may be “geeky”.. I mean.. there’s nothing except Sheldon and he’s not that interesting to begin with – he’s the straight man on the other comedy. I think Lorre just feels bad for Parsons since, well, this is pretty much the pinnacle of his career — Well, this and commercials. Parsons hasn’t shown any range to be able to work anywhere else. Even William Shatner looks at Parsons and thinks “Man, that kid’s a one note song.”
