NBC has cancelled its planned Xena: Warrior Princess TV series reboot, per THR:
After parting ways with writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost) a few months ago, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said the proposed revival in its most recent form is dead.
“Nothing is happening on that right now. We looked at some material; we decided at that point that it didn’t warrant the reboot,” Salke tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I’d never say never on that one because it’s such a beloved title but the current incarnation of it is dead.”
RIP.

Seriously NBC.. come up with ideas OTHER than bring back B shows form 15 years ago. It’s GOOD this was not seen through. Stupid network execs.

Good riddance. I’m sick and tired of networks not willing to take risks and look for ORIGINAL ideas, choosing to regurgitate and rehash old franchises that have an established fan base, which gives them a safe bottom line. S…w them and all these reboots.

Networks take risks all the time on original shows The better the show, the quicker it gets canceled.

I have mixed feelings about this. Some remakes/re-imaginings can be excellent, e.g., Battlestar Galactica. By the same token, it would be nice to see Lucy Lawless and the old team reunite, as they all still look great and aren’t too old to reprise their roles (e.g., the awful and embarrassing The Force Awakens).
It might be interesting to have Xena and Gabrielle reunite (with the secondary cast as well) for a season before passing the torch to another Warrior Princess, as they ride off into the sunset.

God! Can’t NBC come up with any thing that’s original. First Will and Grace, now Xena. What’s next, Seinfeld or Friends. I’m ok with reunion specials. But reboots are just laziness by the writers and producers.
