With Gillian Anderson out, The X-Files will enter the cancellation graveyard after Season 11, but creator Chris Carter believes there’s still “more life” in the series.
Having previously stated that there’s no future without Anderson’s Dana Scully, Carter has now hinted at a possible reboot of the series without Anderson, per Digital Spy:
“I don’t know. I think that certainly The X-Files has more life in it, there are more stories to tell, with Gillian or without. I’m sorry to see her go, I’ve never actually considered doing this show without her, so is this the end?
It’s the end of something, I don’t know if it’s the beginning of something new. But certainly we will have to all put our heads together and figure out where to go from here.”
On what the upcoming series finale has in store:
“It’s a culmination of the ten episodes and it’s a culmination of a storyline. I can tell you that it involves their son, who they’ve always considered to be their son, revelations there. It will certainly be looked upon as a cliffhanger of sorts, but also an episode that answers so many questions.”
Where do you stand: should The X-Files resurrect in future years without Scully, or should the story end for good with Season 11?
George Lewis says
Renew & revitalize using the 2 younger agents from the prior year.
Karen says
There will always be X-Files to tell with or without Scully. I think the show has a place always. One person should not make the series end.
Anthony Carota says
If it is the end so be it. But if they do bring the show back they should do it with some younger stars so to give it some new blood which would be a good thing
Joseph Bongiorno says
Keep it going! As much as I adore Gillian Anderson and Scully, I don’t think the show should stop because she wants to bow out (which I respect). I grew to like the two younger agents they introduced, and think that could be a strong, working dynamic.
June Leathers says
As long as Mulder is in it I think it would be good to keep on renewing it. I like Mulder better than Scully anyway. Maybe they could bring a love interest in for Mulder after Scully leaves.
Danielle says
I think they should keep the show going. Keep Mulder and bring on the two young agents from the previous reboot. Mulder could be a mentor to them. I don’t think the series should be canceled because Gillian Anderson wants to leave.
Mary Ann Doty says
If Gillian Anderson chooses to leave, I believe the show should go ahead without her. The chemistry between them has not been the same with the reboot. I agree new life needs to be infused into the series, but David Duchovny as Mulder is a staple for the show. Where would the show be without his wit and humor.
