Timeless Season 2 cancelled on cliffhanger? Creator Shawn Ryan has explained the decision to end the drama’s first season on a cliffhanger despite the threat of cancellation, per Deadline:
We had thought for awhile about what the best way was to give some closure for Season 1 while also setting us up for a new dynamic in Season 2. We wanted to bring Garcia Flynn’s journey to some kind of end, though I’m sure we’ll see more of him going forward. So while many people might see our Season 1 conclusion as a cliffhanger, we see it as a wrap-up of Season 1 and a launch point for Season 2.
Ryan notes that Season 2 will be pitched to the NBC renewal gods in April:
We are working on our overall plan for Season 2 right now and we’ll pitch it to NBC in April, so I’m reluctant to get too much into it because we’ll want to take a deep breath and evaluate the whole season before we commit to what we want to do in Season 2. What I can say is the current plan involves our heroes traveling to the past to stop history from being perverted and changed too much.
On whether they had an alternate ending that could serve as a proper series finale in the event of extinction:
No. Eric and I planned for success. We’ve been working towards this ending ever since the season began.
Will Timeless spend eternity on a cliffhanger or will it renew for Season 2? Stay tuned…
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not again says

Dan R says
I hope it is renewed. But i do not trust any of the big four networks that much…
J. French says
Fully expect NBC to cancel the series & replace it with 2 inane sitcoms which will quickly fizzle out into obscurity following the grand tradition of ABC in direct competition of becoming a former Big 3 Network surpassed by the major cable networks of USA, TNT, TBS & AMC.
Once Timeless has been cancelled, the Blacklist will become the only program aired by NBC that I watch except for an occasional football game.
J. French says
Excuse me, I stated in error that The Blacklist was the only other NBC series which I regularly watched.
I had forgotten Blindspot, not due to a memory lapse but because it is so good a show as to be considered a CBS series.
My entire NBC viewing consists of Timeless, The Blacklist (favorite) & Blindspot.

Wow, just wow. Not even surprised anymore. Network TV series will soon be a memory as they start competing with cable stupid reality/not really reality shows. Sigh……..
Michael Frost RPh says
This is a great show. In fact it’s one of 2 that my family watches together weekly.. finally You have something that can compete against the Sci-Fi Channel and you want to cancel it. I would think you would have renewed it weeks ago.
Sally Broadhurst says
Timeless is one of the better shows on tv with the added feature of history and what happens when someone changes it. Really needs to be renewed. Great show, love the actors and the characters they play and want to see the story continue.
Joseph Bongiorno says
NBC currently has two GREAT shows: Timeless and Emerald City. If they want to continue to compete with the Big Boys and re-establish the trust of their audience, they need to SUPPORT these shows and give them the time they need to build their audience.
