That was in part because the network and Timeless producer Sony Pictures TV had been discussing doing a two-hour movie that would resolve the cliffhanger in the recent Season 2 finale and wrap the stories on the show, giving fans closure. I hear the two sides have not been able to make the economics work so far but conversations continue, and NBC appears interested.

Showrunner Shawn Ryan has expressed his wishes for a Timeless wrap-up movie to bring closure to the axed series:
1. This is a sad day for the writers, actors, crew and especially the viewers of Timeless. We are all extremely proud of what we made and know that it was more than just a show for so many of our fans. It became a passion and a cause for many of them. https://t.co/FPbySi7LXZ

2. We’re proud of the impact @NBCTImeless had on so many people – the students who embraced history as a result of our show, the people who were inspired by our stories of inclusion and acceptance. We saw your tweets and were inspired by you.

3. If NBC is sincere in wanting a 2 hour movie to give much needed closure to our amazing @NBCTimeless fans, we are ready to make it. We don't want the journeys of Lucy, Wyatt, Rufus and the others to end yet. #ClockBlockers

Would you watch a Timeless wrap-up movie? Hope the show has breathed its last breath? Stay tuned…
Magneeta says
Yes I would go for that. Just as long as it gives answers to the cliffhanger & it’s not just 2 stand-alone episodes which has nothing to do with the cliffhanger.
Steve says
This is proof it’s idiots making the decision to cancel this and other shows and that viewership has nothing to do with it. If the show is popular enough for a 2 hour movie then obviously it was stupidity that canceled it.
John Houston says
A 2 hour finale would be better than leaving millions of worldwide fans with such a sour taste in our mouths. NBC refuses to acknowledge that the time slot that they gave to Timeless was the worst possible time slot for any program. I am appealing to fans to get in touch with the “History Channel” for a chance to keep this educational, well acted and truly engrossing program on the air. The “History Channel” would be the perfect place to go to keep this show alive. A better time-slot would reap rewards for them. Watching reruns of American Pickers and other such shows is just way too much and completely overdone. Let’s bring some real history to the “History Channel”.

altho I agree with you in theory … Timeless is a fictional show about historic events … even still it certainly could work for the History channel and continuous reruns do wear thin …personally had no issue with the time slot … but I get your point

A would rather have a 2 hour finale episode to clear things up & end it properly then just get nothing. We have been faithfully watching & waiting for this show since it began and can’t believe they just cancel whenever they feel like it. I know many others that watch it also & are sad it will be taken off. Take off some of the reality crap everyone thinks is better!!
Rita says
A wrap up movie is better than leaving the Timeless fans in limbo but I wish another channel would pick up this series so I can keep watching like TNT or A&E, etc.

it would have been nice if cancelrenewtv had this announcement on their 2nd e-mail … whatever … I am pleased this is a possibility … but wont hold my breath … does change how I feel about the cancellation or NBC one little bit however one for each letter
