Another nail in the already closed coffin of cancelled NBC drama The Player comes with news that star Philip Winchester has been cast in NBC’s Chicago spinoff series Chicago Justice.
Deadline reports on the casting which removes any unrealistic hope that The Player, which dead after a few episodes, will not be back for Season 2:
Strike Back star Winchester was among the most sought actors last pilot season, ultimately signing for the lead in NBC’s drama pilot The Player, which went to series. While the show did not last, I hear NBC brass wanted to keep the actor in the fold and stepped up with an offer for Chicago Justice as Winchester was weighing in other pilot offers.
Spearheaded by Wolf, Chicago Justice is produced by Universal TV and Wolf Entertainment. The idea is to have ADA characters appear on Chicago PD this season to plant seeds for the legal offshoot.
With The Player already in the pits of hell, the Cancellation Reaper now turns his attention to Winchester’s next gig, though he’ll likely have a harder time catching Chicago Justice and its siblings in the 2016-17 season. Stay tuned…
