NBC has put The Player on cancellation notice after cutting the ratings-challenged drama’s first season from 13 to 9 episodes.
The Philip Winchester and Wesley Snipes drama is currently filming Episode 9, with production to stop (likely permanently) once it wraps.
It’s not quite an ‘official’ cancellation yet, but the bigger question might be whether all nine episodes make it to air before the Cancellation Reaper swings his blade. Stay tuned…

I like the series The Player. If NBC cancel this series perhaps another network will pick it up, a cable network would be grand!!

The Player is excellent. The network is so quick to cancel without giving it a chance to catch on.

I AM WITH YOU ON THAT ONE. CBS IS THE SAME WHY.

Really liked this show. Networks are so quick to cancel before they give the shows a chance to catch on. I get so frustrated watching shows that have a cliff-hanger and are canceled before you have an opportunity to learn what happened. Getting to the point of not watching anything that doesn’t end weekly (i.e Longmire and The Player – what happened to the wife???????????)
Tim says
Keep the player as it is a good show.If they would of had better promoted it better they would have better ratings.
Roy Cortez says
Not sure what to think??? Networks today just don’t know what a great show they have and to end on a cliff hanger not know what happen to his wife and who behind just boggles the mine……….good luck on you next project and please don’t waste viewers time……..

The Player was a really good show. I just watched episode 9, Tell, and it was terrific. To think that this show was cancelled!!
Idiots. There’s nothing but idiots at NBC apparently. (Yes, I am annoyed.)
Slowly but surely the powers that be at NBC are training their audience to NOT watch their network. Why invest in a show and some great characters if they are just going to inevitably and too quickly disappear on you? Top of the line shows like The Blacklist are rare but not every show can make a splash like that one. Penalizing a very good show that the audience hasn’t found or whose characters take a little time to develop is not doing NBC or the viewers any favors.
Alex Kane was a fabulous character for Phillip Winchester to play. He was a believable character even though he did some improbable things… just what an action hero needs to be! Charity Wakefield did a tremendous job as Cassandra and you couldn’t make up your mind if the intriguingly smooth and unruffled Mr. Johnson was a villain or not.. Now we’ll never know. Thanks a lot, NBC.
I’m not going to say I’ll never watch NBC again. But I will be wary of investing my irreplaceable time and attention into the shows they produce if they won’t stand behind them.

It’s crazy. They keep blinds pot which is getting predictable.

I love this show. It’s different from the norm. Just when it was getting interesting, they want to cut the show. They are too quick to get rid of the good ones. AMC please pick up this show right after Badlands.

Another horrible move by a network! Can someone explain to these guys that every show they have can’t b tops in ratings!!! I mean every time a show isn’t #1 in ratings doesn’t constitute it being canceled lol! These guys wondering why they can’t get viewers after a show has been on for less than a season is ridiculous! How bout change the day or time that show is on and see if u get more people to watch it!? Just a thought lol! But who am I!? Oh a consumer who has to keep watching crap on TVs like the voice and game show crap! Come on keep this show!
