The Exorcist has been dead for half a year on FOX, but what would have happened in Season 3?
EP Rob Slater reflected on the show’s demise and teased what would Season 3 would have looked like, per TVLine:
TOMAS AND MARCUS’ REUNION | “Absolutely it’d be a disservice to come back, and the opening scene of Season 3 is Marcus kicking down the door and saying, ‘Tomas, I miss you.’ We kind of set up this big shooting between the two of them, and then we have to pay that off.”
EXPANDING THE NETWORK | “Part of the story in Season 3 would be Marcus having to use his connections to this religious underworld to track down his missing partner. If he can’t necessarily trust the Church anymore, because it’s been compromised, I think it’d be fun to see Marcus having to go outside the bounds of the Church and talk to some of the people he would have met over his last 30 years of exorcising people. [Sources] who deal in conspiracy theories, religious reliquaries and things like that… Shamans and rabbis and people from different faiths who may be fighting the same evil using different terminology and different methodology.
I know it’s easy to get angry at Fox, but the reality is that we were the lowest-rated drama on any network and they still brought us back for a second season, because they loved the show. There are no bad guys in this scenario.

I was lucky enough to work with the greatest collection of writers, actors, artists and crew that anyone could ask for. Our amazing fans supported us every step of the way. I made lifelong friends and 20 hours of pretty good television. That’s not a bad legacy at all.

At the end of the day, all I can feel is gratitude for every single member of the #ExorcistCongregation who followed us on this unbelievable adventure. I wish we could have given you a proper ending, but the characters belong to you now. You decide how their story ends.
