The Exorcist has been cancelled after two seasons on FOX, but what would a third season have looked like, and could the series resurrect elsewhere?
Speaking to Deadline, EP Jeremy Slater outlined what he had planned for The Exorcist Season 3:
We have ideas for sure. I mean, we obviously have a great mystery built in with Tomas and Mouse having driven off into the sunset together and then six months later Marcus learns that either they’re in danger or something bad has happened.
In this season, we’ve also set up the idea that at this point the Catholic Church has been compromised. It has been infiltrated by these sleeper agents including Father Bennett, who has now been turned to the other side, to give us a great face to the evil conspiracy. So we’re really stacking the deck against our heroes and we’re really saying that if they’re going to stand a chance at kind of toppling this conspiracy, we’re going to need to form some sort of resistance. Whether that means reaching out to members of other faiths and other religions or whether that means Marcus reaching out to sort of his contacts in the supernatural underworld, I think you’re going to start to see the first steps in a larger war.
On the odds of The Exorcist finding a new home for Season 3, Slater suggests FX or Hulu hold some possibility:
You know, Disney now owns FX and they’re now going to be big shareholders in Hulu, which desperately needs content. So, it’s one of those a door closes and two other doors open scenarios. I think our odds of just kind of continuing as is for another six years are probably slim but I do think there are places that would be a great home for us and it’s just a question of whether those stars kind of align.
Will you miss The Exorcist? What did you make of the series finale? Hopeful for a revival elsewhere?

Don’t cancel this show. It is a good Friday night thriller for those of us that like a good does of horror with a good story line. There is garbage on TV most of the time and the few shows I watch are getting cancelled. This show has a solid dedicated core of people. I for on would miss it. The last episode left a lot to be explained, does Marcus finally hear God’s voice again, will Mouse and Tomas be able to save Fr. Benedict? There is so much that needs explaining. Please find a home for this unique show, if American Horror story can do well (ugh) I don’t see why this can’t. Maybe use a known actor each time like with Geena Davis and John Cho. I bet you can find a part for Christopher Walken, he would be great!!!

Ditto! This is the best retake or remake of a cult horror flick. Please let FX continue this series

I am so so sad over the cancellation of “The Exorcist”.I just do not understand how this show is canceled but stupid idiotic shows remain.I feel the same about “Superstition”.I feel that show would only get better as it evolved.I would give a sample of the idiotic shows that are renewed but they are so numerous.Very few shows that pull you in and keep you coming back!!….at least for me.I am binge watching shows from the 80’s because todays shows are crappy!

I really enjoyed this show. I hope it finds a new home. I discovered it on Hulu and binged it. The storyline is strong. I especially liked season 2. It’s sad that good shows like this get cancelled while other bad shows stay on.
