CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery is making its second showrunner change.
Out are showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, who originally took over the role at the helm of the drama from Bryan Fuller. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman, who has guided the franchise (and a few of its feature films), will take over as showrunner on season two. As part of the change, Kurtzman will now also oversee the Discovery writers’ room for season two.

“We’ve made some producer changes at Star Trek: Discovery,” said producer CBS TV Studios in a statement to Deadline. “The series continues under the creative vision and leadership of executive producer and co-creator Alex Kurtzman. Discovery remains on course for season two in 2019 with new and continuing stories that build on its successful premiere season.”
Sources said there were no creative problems on the show, but more of operational issues. It is possible for another showrunner to be recruited down the road.

Amid yet more changes at the helm, will Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 be the last in the show’s run? Season 3 cancelled already? The reaper is on red alert.
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the cancel/renew status of Star Trek: Discovery Season 3…

It’s great that Star Trek Discovery will continue. I have watched ALL of the Star Trek shows from the original one, ST The Next Generation, ST Voyager, ST Deep Space Nine, but have not been able to watch ST Discovery because it is not free to watch. I do not have CBS All Access. I can’t afford it as I am on a limited income. That sucks. I am a true Trekkie who can’t watch this latest show. I hope that they put it on regular CBS station so I can watch it. Otherwise, hope Netflix picks it up. (at least season 1 for now).

I hope it does get axed, what made CBS think America was going to pay to watch a Star Trek what is it a prequel? It’s not like your average treker is going to pay to see something from the past already knowing what is going to happen in the future. Trekies yeah but trekers have tons of stuff to watch that doesn’t cost us anything. i.e. Babylon 5, the greatest scifi serial ever is back on Amazon prime video and it don’t cost prime members nothing.

I would have watched this show if it were shown on regular CBS! I will not pay streaming service for just one network.. They kind of shot themselves in the foot with this one!

Agree that keeping the show exclusive to CBS All Access will be the death of the show. Ending with only 2 Seasons will set another record, albeit a disappointing one, as the shortest of the ST TV series to date.
