April 16, 2015 – WEtv pulls Sex Box from the schedule, effectively cancelling the series with four episode remaining on the first season. The network insists that it’s working on a ‘”reformatted” version of the show, but whether that sees the light of day remains to be seen. For now, at least, Sex Box is closed for business, much to the joy of the Parents Television Council.
March 4, 2015 – WEtv are “pleased” with the early response to Sex Box, per president Marc Juris who told Deadline:
“We are pleased by the initial response to ‘Sex Box,’ a show that significantly grew viewership in its Friday night timeslot and also brought male viewers to WE tv, which was a key element of our recent rebrand and remains a strong strategic focus for the network. This show is bold and provocative and we are looking forward to a season filled with repairing relationships through frank discussions, expert advice and more sex in a box.”
February 19, 2015 – The Parents Television Council has rejected WEtv’s offer to watch Sex Box before calling for it to be erased from existence, with a counter offer:
“WE tv has made us an offer in an attempt to deflect any responsibility for the content of this show. So here’s [our] counter-offer: WE tv should reimburse every PTC member for the monthly cable subscription fees it receives from our members who don’t want WE. They should make the same offer for all cable and satellite subscribers.”
February 18, 2015 -WEtv has responded to the Parents Television Council’s calls for Sex Box to be buried by urging PTC members to watch the show before deciding whether to sign the petition.
January 28, 2015 – Sex Box has the Parents Television Council (PTC) hot under the collar. The PTC has created a petition calling for the cancellation of the series, and moreover, for WEtv to be removed from basic cable subscription packages to prevent children from being exposed to the show. PTC president Tim Winter said in a statement:
“In order for a child to watch the Disney Channel, her parents must now also pay for a live sex show on WE tv. Something is terribly, horribly broken in the marketplace when an industry is capable of making that happen.
If some adults want to watch a program like that, let them pay for it. But forcing it into the basic cable bundle and making parents and families pay for it is an outrage. Sex Box should never see the light of day on basic cable.”
