(NEW YORK) Entering its sixth year, Nat Geo Mundo unveils an exciting slate of programming, including new and returning series, stunning wildlife specials and an expanded lineup of Spanish-language originals to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. The announcement was made in advance of National Geographic’s upfront presentation in the Apple Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
“We’ve experienced continued growth and success since our launch in early 2011,” said National Geographic Global Networks CEO Courteney Monroe. “Each year, Nat Geo Mundo builds on its commitment to Latino audiences, offering premium content that is bold, distinctive and relevant to the U.S. Hispanic market. And this year will be no different.”
The new upfront slate features an increased emphasis on National Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout September and October, the network will air Spanish-language original series and specials. Mexican personality Alex Syntek returns for an all-new round of Brain Games-style fun with episodes of AsombrosaMente. National Geographic Explorers Fabio Amador and Andres Ruzo team up with top Mexican archaeologists to explore ancestral sites in Mexico in Secrets of the Underworld and the feature documentary Those on the Other Side examines the cultural divide between San Diego and Tijuana.
Nat Geo Mundo will also simulcast some of National Geographic’s highest-profile series, including the recently announced scripted war drama The Long Road Home, starring Kate Bosworth, Jason Ritter and Jeremy Sisto. The network will also broadcast season two of the popular sci-fi series MARS in addition to One Strange Rock, the mind-bending thrilling journey from filmmaker Darren Aronofsky.
Building on the legacy of National Geographic’s iconic brand, Nat Geo Mundo features some of the biggest, baddest and most ferocious natural history specials: discover rare shark-feeding events, search for elusive predators, and witness mighty factions of lions, leopards, wild dogs and hyenas battle it out for power.
