Royal Pains is set to end after Season 8, showrunners Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch have revealed.
USA renewed the medical drama for Seasons 7 and 8 in November last year, without officially announcing that they would be the last in the series.
However, speaking to THR, Rauch revealed that they see Season 8 as the last and have started mapping out the end game:
“The thought of not being able to end a show that we love and characters whom we love so much with the proper ending would have been heartbreaking. We want to seize this opportunity and make assumptions that the end of season eight will be the end of the series so that we can plan accordingly.
Added Lenchewski:
We’re incredibly grateful to have the opportunity that few shows get to be able to end the storytelling on our own terms. Not only that but to be given this 16-episode canvas that allows us to build really methodically towards the end point for each of these characters and their journeys. It’s been a lot of fun, really challenging, but ultimately really helpful to be able to use these last two seasons to chart our way from here to the end.
Lenchewski concedes that there’s a small chance of Royal Pains carrying on through Season 9, though they’ve been given the impression from the network that the show will end after eight:
USA has not said this is the end, and they haven’t said this isn’t the end. It probably makes sense for them not to announce it at least yet, but no show on USA has run longer than eight seasons and we don’t expect this too. Of course we always keep hope alive. But the feeling that we have gotten is that it would make sense to plan for these two to be the end of the show. We feel creatively and emotionally that it’s better to do that and if there’s some wonderful surprise coming around the corner, fantastic, we can always adjust but as Andrew mentioned earlier, we feel so lucky to have the opportunity to choose how we finish these stories that we really want to do it as best we can.

I agree royal pains was a good show I was hoping that it would be renewed for

Matt says
to be honest i rather have them end this show on their terms. they are not cancelling this series. they will craft and end for it like they did with Burn Notice and White Collar

I do understand wanting to end such a great show on it’ own terms, but I will say that this is actually one of the longer running series that actually keeps getting better without having to rehash the same stuff over and over. I have loved the new plot lines and the way they have brought out more of the characters. As a nurse I get tickled to watch Hank Med’s crazy impossible “saves”. They help me to let go at the end of a day. I really do love this show and hope it will be on a few more seasons at least.

Yet another family show cancelled! Who makes these crazy decisions. I always hear about the surveys being taken that tells if a show is successful or not, but I’ve never been offered one. So disappointing.

I agree. I watch very few channels now because of the values on many shows. You can express your opinion about tv programming by joining epoll. Even though I’m probably in the minority of folks offended by much that’s on tv, I get to express that through epoll surveys. You can join free at epolls-dot-com.

I love this show and am sad to see it go, but if your survey person determines this, SMH then please don’t leave us hanging. Give it closure.

Another great show…stupid people making these decisions

This was one of the best shows on the USA channel. Lets keep another 3 years at least. I’m sure the actors would love to continue making money and working with their own personnel. This is a show the whole family can watch and enjoy the scenery . Please change your decision or better yet, maybe another channel will pick up. USA channel – I thought you were better…
