RIP.
Daisy D says
The premise had the potential to be cutting edge and off the wall but very little time was spent in story and technical development.
The genius part was was so under played all that was left was a self absorbed billionaire working for a cure for himself. Should have taken bigger clue from Scorpion.
Alice Johnson says
I agree!
Bob Lucido says
Any chance another network picks it up?
Maggie Hurwitz says
Agree
Cindy says
Agree too!
marian says
I also agree!!!
Virginia Arena says
I wish someone would renew that show, the concept was wonderful and it would be great if real life would take notice and follow the example, so perhaps more advancements in medicine could be really be achieved.
Julie Peters says
This was Such a GREAT show!!!!!
Annnnnnd be left hanging like that???
Hopefully someone will pick it up like Nashville!!!
Will the premise was his finding a cure as a basis for the establishment of his medical center…. The medical breakthroughs were simply REMARKABLE!!
SOMEBODY.. BRING IT BAAACK!!! PULLEEZ!!!!
Wanda Watkins says
I should have been prepared because I loved it.
Alice Johnson says
Yeah, me too! I LOVED this show. Plus, it could give some creative ideas to the medical community which are sorely needed. You know much of our space program & the like had designs & ideas coming from the creative minds of science fiction.
Such an absolute shame!!!
C. Collins says
I agree! Maybe they can rework it a little and bring it back. The basic theme of helping people w/Out of the Box thinking and trying new things could trigger some new thinking concepts. It was basically a great show because it dealt with helping people and it wasn’t a take off from a movie or another unneeded “Unreality Show”. Please rework it and bring it back. Thank you in advance.
G. Mulcahey says
I love Pure Genius!! I’m so bummed that it’s gone!
Judith McKenna says
Me too Wanda. And I don’t think they gave it enough time to work itself in. CBS is very quick to judgement.
Linda Raizenne says
I agree just because the premier was weak doesn’t mean it should be cancelled without giving it a chance for viewers to watch it and enjoy it! I really like this show and started watching it after the premier it’s a great show I watch it from Canada
Nana says
I agree this show was one of my favorite. I looked forward to seeing a show without all the violence. It gave me hope for the future of medicine.
Maggie Hurwitz says
I agree
Gayle Pearce says
Me too. I enjoyed the show. It seems what I like then it’s for sure going to be cancelled
John says
Yeah, me too. I must be poison, if I like a show, it is doomed.
Barb B says
I loved it too. I just found it and have been watching it all in a couple of weeks. When I googled it and found that it has been cancelled, Sooooooooooooooo bumed!
Robert A Lucido says
Great show darn take off some of the loser shows
Alice Johnson says
For real & there are plenty of those to choose from! Maybe the Science channel should pick it up.
Angie says
Agree – time to get rid of crap like survivor, the voice, blah, blah, blah – give me something I might be able to look forward to in technology and medicine – it was a thought provoking show!!!
Marion says
So true. Intelligence is longer required to understand TV shows any more.
Frances Hammer says
I totally agree. These networks don’t give shows long enough to develop viewers.Afer about 3 show they cancel this show.Reiculous.
Frances Hammer says
I meant ridiculous ….
Toot says
I also agree, It should be given another chance.
Leslie Hefner says
I could not agreed anymore with what you say.
Kris Strike says
What a shame to cancel this. It was unique and gave viewers an opportunity to think about the potential. I found it very interesting to see the dynamics of a business oriented techie and the medical community.. pressing it to the limits. I liked the fact that the “techie” CEO was a bit odd… that added some interest. Even my 9-year old grandson found it to be interesting and could think about the “what ifs” About the only other show that has captured his interest like this has been “Scorpion”. Both of these shows inspire us to think beyond. What a shame!!!
Doris Says says
I really like this show. This is one show that I put my I Pad down for to watch. I like that now the carectors are now starting to talk about them outside of work and some shows themselves out of work. The show is starting to get more interesting as time goes on. Why do they not give shows at least 2 seasons so they can mature as a show. The stations are two quick to cancel shows anymore. And now that you have to pay to watch CBS ON any kind of a tablet or Lap top or PC, I’m sure not going to pay when they take away my favorite shows. I’ll just record them on TV like I do my other shows and skip the commercials. I just hope , Amazon, Netflix or HBO NOW will pick it up. It a great Family Show and we don’t have many of those
Barbara says
all those foolish shows and sitcoms. anything that has promise goes. i guess the wife is going to close down the hospital. I seem to be the kiss of death. The dancing and singing shows, bachelor, etc. they should go.
DJ says
I totally agree with you!!!!
Maggie Hurwitz says
Totally
Totally
Agree
Bronco46 says
I’m not surprised. This was just a really good medical drama. No politics. No emphasis on homosexuality. And there was religion. This show was doomed from the start. CBS is more concerned about special interests than producing good shows not pushing agendas. Is it any doubt way viewers are leaving network TV for cable and internet channels.
Leslie Hefner says
My comment was directed to Richard’s comment….I personally like The Voice and want to keep it around. Now if you want to get rid of the totally lame comedies being rammed down our throats I’d get in that line. So glad I can choose to NOT watch Kevin Can Wait (example)
Edward says
I do feel that CBS is dropping the ball here with pure genius. I enjoyed the show I think it was cutting edge. It has a lot to learn from at such as never giving up always trying your hardest and doing your best. Is not about a killer or some other bad guy that it’s not worth having on the air. CBS please take another look at this show and bring it back I think you will be pleased with it if you do
Toot says
I totally agree with Bronco46, CBS should give this show another chance.
Denise says
They always cancel the goo
d ones and keep the junk 🙁
Linda says
I really liked this show. Really disappointed it didn’t get more of a chance.
Lloyd Pritchett says
If it was a stupid reality show they would renew it if only a hundred people watched it!
Alina Rionda says
I already left TV Watch what I like on the net. Started watching this show, on the web and was really good But what to expect ? Its CBS, they never let you enjoy a complete show. That’s why I don’t watch it anymore. They keep throwing away the best of the best and keep the garbage.
James Moses says
…..in a LOT of ways, I see the reasons for this show’s demise as being SOMEwhat similar to ‘Proof’ (TNT and, was LIVID when, JUST as with ‘Dallas’, they shut it down without any satisfying resolution WHATsoever); Dermot just wasn’t a compelling enough choice to CREDIBLY be the still-developing, slightly off-putting August’s foil and honestly, given conventional medicine’s virtual STRANGLEHOLD on small-screen storytelling, as someone who could’ve provided MANY amazing anecdotes through my own experiences of 2 decades with an alternative practitioner, really didn’t compel ME to watch…..for a real-life insight into where healthcare SHOULD be headed – SOON, Google Professor Jim Gimzewski and sonocytology…..
Ecas says
So tired of the good shows getting cancelled. Everytime you get invested in a show they cancel it. This was one of my favorites.
jc says
What was CBS thinking, putting Pure Genius on at the same time as How To Get Away With Murder. When you have a show that’s a big hit, it’s hard for a newcomer to succeed. Most of the shows that get renewed are unchallenging or boring or worst of all STUPID. It just goes to show you where the public’s state of mind is.
June Leathers says
Of course it is cancelled. CBS only wants shows with sex & violence and bad sitcoms with canned laughter. This is a good show and CBS should give it time. I loved this show.
Leslie Hefner says
I so agree with your sentiments June. Lot of good comments out there. CBS is growing weak.
Lynn glick says
Pure Genius was pure genius and intelligent. Perhaps that’s what is wrong with it? Some 25 yr. old executive probably dumped it, as usual.
Patti Rutledge says
There are a lot of people out here that want to watch something more than reality shows. If it’s not sexual or language then it doesn’t stand a chance. CBS, I can’t even sit down with my children and watch your shows because they are not fit for children or intelligent people. Please don’t think everyone only watches the stupid shows. CBS is definitely going off my list of channels to watch.
janji says
I love it too. I agree with whoever said that if its new and I like it it will most likely get cancelled
Slasher says
Yea, sad….I liked the show, too. That guy was like a “Nut-job” but a good kind of Nut-job. The kind of guy you would want on “your side.” He would fit right in with the show “Myth Busters.” Oh well, another-one-bites-the-dust!
Deloris says
Pure Genius should not be canceled it is a thought provoking TV show. Not some lame mindless sitcom. Very bad judgment call, CBS.
bill says
and they continue to keep Elementary
Patti Ratledge says
If it has any intellect to it, and makes sense then by all means let’s cancel it. Wouldn’t want anything that families could sit and watch together without nudity or language. It may be surprising that some families still do things together but it does happen. Maybe with more family shows parents and kids may put down their phones. CBS, just shows what you want the world to believe. Heaven knows, some of this may actually be possible one day.
Jenny says
Pure Genius didn’t get low ratings, CBS did. You plopped it in the crappiest time slot AND pit it against football. You failed to advertise it like the other new shows.
Pure Genius is an amazing show that left the viewer hopeful & an overall positive feeling. I am so heartbroken that you, CBS, are so cheap you keep low rent, poorly scripted reality show trash but give away the phenomenal Pure Genius. What a huge mistake.
Dear Netfli,
Could you please offer CBS an amount of money and buy Pire Genius. At least you know how to run an entertainment business correctly.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE PURE GENIUS
Jillyg says
I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!
Cassiemom says
What a mistake! It was put in a tin slot that doomed it. Put it somewhere else and give it a second chance CBS.
Lloyd Pritchett says
If it had been a stupid reality show, CBS would have renewed it if only a hundred people watched it!
Ken G says
Let’s see .. No Nudity, No foul Language, Makes you THINK, doesn’t pander to special interests like lgbt. What else could they do but cancel it? Now to find some idiotic canned laughter comedy or “reality” show to fill the slot.
Kevin Lutz says
OMG are you serious? you cancel all the good ones and keep the crap. this show was awesome, just like Limitless was and you let that one go too.
Melissa Sassin says
Why is it that the shows with no violence get cancelled? This show was full of hope and we all need hope in our lives.
Paula says
VERY TRUE!!!!!
Gary says
Too bad. I really like this show. The characters are just starting to define themselves beyond work. I hope it gets another shot.
CARMEN PELLEGRINO says
What A shame what is wrong with channel 2 i loved this show now i do not want to watch anymore new shows on this channel they always get cancelled.
Robert A Lucido says
Any chance Amazon or Netflix will pick this up?
Harvey Rogers says
Any chance that CBS might rethink this, like FOX did for Bones? It is a shame to see such a positive and aspirational show abandoned.
Jillyg says
What? I thought FOX cancelled Bones (another great show)!
Ann Glorioso says
PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW ON THE AIR!!!!!!! I love this show and can’t wait for it to come on each week.
Every time a good show comes on, it’s cancelled.
Paula says
I completely agree. Finally, a show that is positive, with no foul language or sex. DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW!!!!!
Noel Turano says
Please keep this show. It has so much going for it. Alot of compassion and cutting edge medicine and a great cast
Susan says
Please do not cancel! A great show and on the cutting edge of technology! Reconsider!!!
Frances Hammer says
They never gave this show any time to have a following.CBS needs to get rid o some of those reality shows. I like this show.
James H Packard says
This was a great show and every episode kept getting better
F H Deal says
With every great show there are slow times such as the beginning of this show. It has developed into a thoughtful and caring show. The actors are starting to get comfortable in their roles and the writing has been very smart and clever.
I was hoping that this show would continue on and be an inspiration to people such as Star Trek was. What I mean is, many of the things on Star Trek have come to reality. Pure Genius could be a spring board and inspiration to many people. The concept of the show is Pure Genius
Sally Glorioso says
CBS needs to renew this show and cancel some of the other crap they air.
This is the best show on TV and needs to be given another chance, perhaps a different time slot. Keep this show on air!!!!
Quita says
I agree. Look forward to this show. Despise all the reality shows.
Jane says
You guys suck! Good shows that don’t have all the sex and violence get cancelled all the time. I’m so disappointed.
John says
This is a really good shoe, one I can watch with my grandchildren. A very inspiring story. One which we could all aspire to, even if it is only TV. I can remember when almost all TV was an example of the good in us. It does figure that this show would be cancelled to make room for the standard filth of the networks.
John says
Oops, sorry “show”, not shoe.
Deni says
This show is great. I don’t understand why you cancel the good shows and then put on crap.
Dawn Merck says
Because people love CRAP and thats sad
Carmel Hall says
CBS once again cancel one of the best shows on television proving that they don’t care what their viewers think! “Pure Genius” was exactly what its name implied & was must see TV! We’re very disappointed that you cancelled another one of our favorites.
Bennie says
What happened CBS, why cancel a very good show? Why base the ratings on an 18-49 demographic? I’m sure a lot of people older than 49 love this show. Please renew. Thanks.
Maggie Hurwitz says
How can we get a petition to reconsider? This show was different and gave a perspective on medical treatments. What is wrong with viewers that they can watch the other uninspiring shows and fail to see the potential of a series that isn’t built on the kar-selfcentered-egocentered-rich-noncaring-me_me-me-dashians. Are we left to watch only no brain-er shows forever?
Show like the reality garbage is why we are in the pickle we are in with this rigged administration.
Think people – we need to do something to get our souls back.
Jillyg says
I AGREE! I would be happy to sign a petition.
Tina says
This is why I hardly ever watch CBS, they always get rid of the good shows and keep the crappy ones. This was a show that my son and I could watch together and we both LOVED it!!! PLEASE reconsider cancelling this show, possibly put it on a different time slot. Something, but please don’t cancel it!!!
Debra Ketterling says
Pure Genius is a show that shared the love of technology, the medical field, and “thinking outside the box” intertwined with HOPE. Human life is so precious and this show gave all patients a second chance at life using all the medical know how and technology to think about possibilities. I looked forward to this show every week and will miss it.
Mrsg says
Wow, a show that was intelligent, cancelled after only 13 episodes- BUT the STUPID shows continue. Such a sad statement about television viewers AND the advertisers that want them. So sad.
Cara says
I’m really shocked this show has been canceled. Everyone I have talked to about the show really looked forward to seeing each episode as much as I did,so i don’t get it!
Renee says
I’m shocked as well, I thought is was a well written show, I loved the concept and all of the characters, I certainly hope someone else will pick it up!!!!! 🙁
Linda says
One would think that with so many comments expressing disgust with the network ending this series, some exec with half a brain would read them and reconsider. Apparently, they don’t poll their audiences well enough. Everyone seems to agree that we’ve had our fill of reality TV, yet it seems like a new twist on a reality show appears every season. Can’t they find someone with an original thought in their heads?
I agree with everyone else here. This show was original, out of the box, and entertaining. Mistake to cancel it.
Connie Mason says
This program was not just good…it was great! I am a business owner with very little time to waste with TV. This program was #1 on my list of about 5. If I had to guess as to why this program ended I would say it was because it did not pander to the ignorant. What it did do was to present “off the wall” ideas that just might work. Imagine….use your brain…come up with a solution. These are ideas that are being left behind by the current generation. Sad CBS….go produce some mind numbing sitcom and make a ton of money. That is really what this is about…just sayin
Jillyg says
The show itself was pure genius. And CBS cancelling it PURE STUPIDITY!
Vickey says
Pure genius was an excellent show I can’t believe it was canceled that is total stupidity I’m getting really sick of CVS and the stupid crap but they are doing to get rid of the good shows and keep the crappy this is not the first time and I just quit watching CVS permanently
Vickey says
CBS I talk my text so sometimes it gets screwed up They still should not cancel the show I will sign the petition if somebody gets one going
Francis Deal says
Maybe Fox will pick it up and run it with APB which is Pure Genius for cops
Dean P says
Sad to see it go, it was admirable to see people only worried about helping people instead of how much money they would make off of them.
MDawne says
Really enjoyed this show… very sad to see it canceled. I thought the premise was good, so started taping it from the start and watching later at my convenience – time slot wasn’t the greatest, to say the least. I was really starting to enjoy the characters, and loved the innovative story lines… showed some real creativity and imagination. Such a shame that “the public” prefer to watch “reality TV”, which is so totally scripted and ridiculous, or so called “comedies” that are basically pathetic and so simple minded I don’t know how people can consider them humorous! Too bad something new and ingenious has to suffer because of the simpleminded masses…
David Havron says
Reality tv is more profitable
If people stopped watching then bs would respond
Kathie Bailey says
I am really sad that they didn’t try a second season to give people a chance to watch it and get into it. I told everyone I know to watch it and then they cancel it. So tired of all the shows on violence!
C. Harris says
Does anyone know the name of the moron that decided to cancel the show? Maybe a few of us could talk to them and help change their little minds. CBS you finally had a show on with a little entertainment value and you put on a brain killing comedy and a crap show about jury tampering. TV sucks anymore.
Deborah says
Wow CBS looks like you screwed up. It is plain to see that it was a well like show. I really going to miss it.
David Havron says
I use Apple TV and I discovered how few episodes are produced. On regular tv they mix it up with reruns but an Apple TV and Roku it is obvious that there is very little new content so when a decent show like Pure Genius goes away it is glaring. As a result we tend to gravitate ttowards Netflix and Hulu
Belinda Pike says
I really enjoyed pure genius. I don’t think it should be canceled. I really like it and code black also.. I don’t know what is happening to TV. Silly so called reality show stay on air but good shows that are thought provoking and just enjoyable shows get canceled. Rethink it please.
Roxie Phelps says
Pure Genius, an awesome show that I was looking so forward to seeing again, was cancelled and Genius about Eiestein replaced it??? Really???
Maria says
WOW!!! I really enjoyed this show, it was genius!!!! and hopeful that the future of medicine is yet to come. I am a nurse and dislike most medical shows this one was thought provoking. Why do they leave senseless shows like survivor.
Linda Hicks says
So many stupid shows and when we get a good one it is cancelled, how can we get it back? Zoo was also one I liked, what’s up with reality shows, how can people enjoy watching people argue.
Sharon says
How sad, Pure Genius was an awesome show. I thought it was just on a hiatus for a short while.
Cindy says
We watched this show and liked it. I understand the episodes were based on real innovations being worked on. Better than almost all reality shows! i watch Survivor. It was nice to see what might be coming down the pipeline. The acting was great. Hope it comes back.
Josie says
Why o why did CBS cancel Pure Genius. You need to hire new upper management…obviously they are not in tune with a great series…some pretty lousy shows are kept on tv…one wonders why…CBS should give it another chance with a different day and time slot…thank you in advance…
Lynn says
I agree with SO many others……..This was a GREAT show and some other network REALLY needs to pick it up. And for those that commented that the show was just based on him finding a cure for himself……there was way, way, way more to the show than that………he really cared about people and always went over and beyond to help them.
SO hurt that it will not be returning. We need more shows and people that genuinely care about one another, who will go that extra mile to help their fellow man.
