The June 27 series finale brought Pretty Little Liars to an end after a seven season run, but the Freeform drama originally had a different ending, creator Marlene King revealed to Deadline:
The original ending was going to be the PLLs saying goodbye, but we really felt like we needed a twist upon the twist — but not a twist that somehow affected the PLLs because we wanted fans to have closure. So that’s when we started a dialogue about, how could we play with something here? And it just felt like so much fun to have Mona stealing the game and being A.D. for one final time.
The cast may be open to a PLL revival, reunion or reboot series in years to come, but King seems less enthused:
No. I feel like we’re just saying goodbye. I mean, we’ve talked about doing a panel somewhere, that kind of a reunion, but everybody’s gotta go off and stretch their creative muscles and really fly with their own wings a little bit. If the stars align at the right time and everybody’s available, then we could talk about something else, but that would be years from now.
In truth, the cancellation reaper is unlikely to let Pretty Little Liars slip from his grasp, but stay tuned for updates should something expected happen…
Elaine says
I won’t be watching any reboot. The show is dead. Let it Rest In Peace. In 10 years you can do a reunion movie but for now, leave it alone
