Hulu has given acclaimed comedies PEN15 and Ramy a second season, it was announced today. The former will return for 14 more episodes, while the latter’s second season will have 10.
From Maya Erskine (Man Seeking Woman) and Anna Konkle (Rosewood), PEN15 tells the story of Maya (Erskine) and Anna (Konkle), two 13-year-old best friends and fellow social outcasts who head into a new school year in 2000. The series finds Maya and Anna exploring issues of boys, school, divorce, experimentation, fitting in, and identity.
In addition to Erskine and Konkle, PEN15 stars the likes of Richard Karn (Home Improvement), Taylor Nichols (The Last Days of Disco), and Melora Walters (Big Love).
Created by and starring Ramy Youssef (Mr. Robot), with Jerrod Carmichael (The Carmichael Show) executive producing and Bridget Bedard (Transparent) showrunning, Ramy follows first generation Egyptian-American Ramy as he navigates his way through a politically divided New Jersey neighborhood. The series will chronicle Ramy’s attempt at balancing his faith with his status as a millennial.
In addition to Youssef, Ramy stars Mohammed Amer (My Cousin Sister’s Wedding), Hiam Abbass (The Visitor), Amr Waked (Lucy), May Calamawy (Madam Secretary), Dave Merheje (Criminal: Become Vengeance), Laith Nakli (12 Strong), and Steve Way (Projecting).
