With Once Upon A Time Season 7 renewal in the offing, ABC chief Channing Dungey teased the “new direction” the fantasy drama’s upcoming chapter will take, per EW:
“[Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis] would be looking for the seventh season to be a springboard in a new direction from a narrative standpoint.
Does that mean a new cast?:
“[It] doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re not bringing cast back, it’s just how do you kind of hit the reset button in a way that gives you opportunity to expand the stories that we’re telling?”
Should Season 7 not move forward, Dungey teased the possibility of a new incarnation of the series, perhaps another spinoff to follow the doomed Once Upon A Time In Wonderland? Per Deadline:
“Regardless of what we decide to do at the end of this season, I think they think they would put a little bit of a bow [on Season 6], and then there is a next piece that comes after that, so they are trying to figure out what that is and how that works.”
Whether Once returns for Season 7, a spinoff series or faces a cancellation twist in the tale, Dungey further teases closure to the main storyline at the end of Season 6:
“There will be a little bit of closure in this particular narrative regardless of what happens with season 7.”
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the survival status of the fairy tale drama…
