Per THR and Sacha Baron Cohen Himself, there will be no second season for Showtime’s Who Is America? However, the initial season was filmed and kept a secret up until the week before its premiere – so we can’t write the show off completely. The last season was a seven-episode run that saw solid ratings and a number of new subscribers to the premium channel.
Showtime’s Chief David Nevins is also desperate to bring back the show given its success:
“[The controversy] has been helpful,” Nevins said at the time. “Everything we did about it was unconventional. We kept secret a show that was in process for more than a year. We kept quiet until a week before it was on the air. [Baron Cohen] has a remarkable ability to make noise. I think it’s remarkable what he’s achieved … and I think Sacha is one of the great comedians of our time. He’s the Daniel Day-Lewis of comedy.”
Saully says
OMGoodness! My friend one evening said, “Saul, you gotta see this, you’ll never believe it!” and i was shocked, amazed and sore from laughing so hard. I cannot believe that such prominent people fell for these interviews. I also wish it was G or PG rated so that it could air on national tv stations for all to see just how bad things really are. If it weren’t for such famous people being interviewed, you’d think it was scripted. Boy oh boy… funny and shocking. This all said, i really hope for a Season 2. After watching that episode with my friend, when i got home, i subscribed to Showtime! And have been waiting for season 2. Does this mean i can cancel my subscription then? Thanks.
