Freeform has cancelled New Warriors ahead of its 2018 series premiere, per THR.
The series will supposedly be shopped elsewhere, the publication reports:
Instead, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Marvel will shop the live-action comedy to other outlets. Sources say there has been some talk that the 10-episode series from Kevin Biegel (Enlisted) could be taken to Disney’s forthcoming subscription streaming service, though insiders stress that’s a longshot.
Insiders note that Freeform — which is expanding original programming to four nights a week in 2018 — could not find a slot for the show next year as it had originally intended. Marvel then asked for New Warriors back as the comic book powerhouse wants it to premiere in the new year. Freeform obliged.
About New Warriors:
The show focuses on six young people who all possess powers, and who live and work together while trying to make a difference in the world… even if the world isn’t quite ready for them. Their powers and abilities are on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers’ — not quite super, not yet heroes. The show is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once. Except that in this world, bad guys can be just as terrifying as bad dates.
RIP.
