In a dramatic acknowledgement of commercial clutter, NBCUniversal plans to decrease the number of ads by 20% and will lower overall ad time by 10% across its networks during original primetime programming. The move will take effect this fall and will affect some 50 individual original shows across broadcast and cable.

So 18 minutes of ads will go to 16.2 minutes and 16 minutes of ads will go to 14.4 minutes. Not a noticeable amount when watching live TV.

It’s only a start…they need to go much further! Commercials are the reason I usually record every show that I am interested in watching just so I can fast forward through them. More ads will prompt me to NOT buy their product then ones will prompt me to buy their product. Just saying…
