Nevermind Luther Season 5, the series will go on decades, if creator Neil Cross gets his way.
Speaking to EW, Cross reaffirmed his desire to continue making Luther for many more seasons:
“I hope the people you meet in [Season 4] will go on to be recurring characters. I would keep writing Luther until Idris [Elba] can only walk with some kind of assistance and is a stooped, grey-haired old man. As long as we can find the space and the time to do it, I will do it.”
While Season 4 opens a “new chapter” for John Luther moving forward, Cross admits that after Season 3 he thought the series was over:
“We started to put the band back together for no other reason than we all just wanted to do it,” he says, adding that he had to reconcile with the idea of a new Luther story and the fact that the series had already wrapped in what felt like a permanent fashion. “I began to think about it from a novelist’s perspective, which I’ll say is really hard looking at these things. And what we’d done was end the previous series, [that] was the end of Luther part one, and with this special we’re beginning a whole new chapter in the story of Luther.”
Watch this space as we continue to investigate the status of Luther Season 5 and beyond…

That is good news. Now is there anyone we could write to with regard to more season of Whitechapel and The Hour? These are 2 excellent dramas that had a large audience. We need better drama.
thank you
