It’s the end of the road for Longmire, but not without a proper send-off. Netflix has renewed the Western crime drama for a sixth and final season.
The final season will comprise 10 episodes, allowing the series (which was resurrected by Netflix for Season 4, following cancellation at A&E) to end on its ‘own terms’.
Executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny said:
“We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity to compose a closing chapter for these beloved characters that inspires lasting memories. Most importantly, we’re committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their longtime loyalty.
Netflix vp originals Cindy Holland added:
“We are proud to be the home of the Longmire series, as so many viewers over the last few seasons have watched and been captivated by Walt’s (Robert Taylor) journey. There has been no better team to work with on this show than Greer, Hunt and John, and their tremendous cast and crew, and we have every confidence that they will have a satisfying conclusion to this revered series. We are grateful to them and our friends at Warner Bros., who have been tremendous partners.”
The sixth and final season of Longmire concludes in 2017, with an exact release date to be announced in due course.
Are you pleased Longmire gets the chance to end with closure, or would you have liked to see the series continue into a potential seventh season?
Ray Whitten says
Very glad Longmire is renewed for another season. Sorry it will be the end of a great TV series.

I am glad that Longmire will have the closure it deserves. This is a great series. However, the only reason I started my Netflix account was due to Netflix taking on Longmire, once Netflix ends Longmire, I am afraid my affiliation with Netflix will end as well. Thank you Netflix for giving this wonderful show and myself a chance to see it an extra three seasons. But, as stated Longmire is the only reason I subscribe to your service. If you were to continue to air Longmire beyond next year, then of course I will remain with your service beyond next year but, if you cancel next year as planned, I will cancel my affiliation with you at that time as well.

According to the article Netflix didn’t end it, the show did.

I agree with you. Seems all the good shows end way to early, and I to renewed my Netflix for this show
Donna says
Love this show! I wish it would continue for several more seasons but glad it will get a proper send off. thanks to Netflix for not letting this great show fall off the radar.

I wish it could continue for ever. It’s a great show and the cast is wonderful.

I am so happy that Longmire will continue for a sixth season. I wish there could be more. Love this program.

“Longmire” is one of the best that has ever been produced and I am very sad that “Netflix” has decided to end the series. I thought that when “Netflix” picked up “Longmire” after A&E canceled the show, it had found a permanent home or one that would last for many years at lest. I will be ending my “Netflix” association as well at the conclusion of “Longmire”. It seems that a Real Good Show can’t last very long these days, but crappy ones will! I guess it is a sign of the times we live in, where Evil is becoming dominate over Good more and more!
Betsy says
I will sorely miss this show. I would love it to continue.
Lloyd Pritchett says
I would love for some other cable channel to pick it up! I thought A&E was stupid for dropping it.
Jerry Menikheim says
I echo the reason I subscribed to Netflix is because they picked up the Longmire series. I would really like to see the series continue for a few more seasons but I guess the writers and producers just didn’t want to continue. Is this correct?
blm says
I echo all the above. Love Longmire, and would like it to continue, but am very glad it has ample warning and a full season to wrap things up.

Love Longmire. I am from Montana and really enjoyed seeing a police show set in the West. Robert Taylor is great–whole ensemble cast is great and loved seeing Lou Diamond Phillips. Hate to see it go and really happy that Netflix picks up and continues good series like this.

I really love this show and sorry it has to end. Great characters, good story line and beautiful scenery. It is a five star program and I will miss it.

Quality entertainment television is so lacking on the networks. The main theme now is promoting the LGBT agenda in almost every series. I don’t mind that being a part of the backdrop but not the main theme as is so often the case. Detracts from otherwise entertaining plots, etc. I expect that from the networks. That’s why I find that the offerings on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu usually more entertaining. Longmire fit that bill beautifully as does Bosch and other similar series. I will miss Walt, Vic, Cady, Ferg and Standing Bear, too, hell even Jacob Whitehorse. These were classic characters that added substance to the storylines. A&E’s stupidity equaled Netflix’s bonus.

Why are you ending the best show on TV ??? You have faithful followers that joined Netflix just because you picked up Longmire .. We will all be dropping Netflix now….That is a shame Because you do have a show that could go for many years that will pick up more loyal viewers all the time….please reconsider………look how long Gunsmork was on the air……with its faithful viewers….there is a place for the good old western….we need it to counteract all the crud that is on TV today……Longmire is 10 times better than gunsmoke and a100 times better than anything else on TV….you will be disappointing lot of people….please do reconsider…you won’t be sorry !!!!!!!!

Should have continued. One of the best TV shows on. There is way to much vampire and walking dead crap. I’m glad Netflix had the sense to bring it back for at least a few more seasons. But this show should continue. Everyone I know and talk to likes Longmire.

I love the Longmire series!!!! I binged one whole weekend and watched every episode from series 1-1 thru all of series 5!! Was greatly disappointed when last episode of series 5 was the end!! I yelled at the TV as if it was the TVs fault!! It left so many unanswered questions and no way that it could end the way it did!! Figured by Cady seeing things while in the tribal sweat box, surely she could save Henry and Walt!! But the way it ended made me scream NO!!! They can’t die they have unfinished business to take care of and revenge on the real crooks/mob!! Should have killed that stupid Indian while Henry aka Hector and casino owner Nighthorse had him on hill of scared land!! I would have pushed him off the cliff and then made sure he was dead!!! His granddaughter that lured Henry, that was just doing a good deed he thought, should be dishonorered from the reservation for life!!! From the whole tribe!! Candy needs to find happiness as does Walt and Henry!! Then Walt can retire with VIC and help Cady on reservation teaching their new child the way of the land and honor!!! I wish it could go on forever but that’s not being realistic!!

The conclusion of this show is very disappointing news. We only took a subscription to Netflix to be able to watch this series. We are heartbroken that this series is coming to an end. We think it is a mistake for Netflix to end this show. We most likely will cancel our subscription to Netflix due to this decision.

Ing as long as possible. It was one of my favorite programs ya had on. I will surely miss it. Keep up the great work.

I am so sad to see Longmire end this year but thank you Netflix for picking it up & giving us all 3 more amazing seasons after A & E canceled it. I was extremely disappointed when I heard last year that the higher ups i.e Exec. Producers & Writers whoever else had their hands on it had decided to end the Series with Season 6 🙁 . I will miss Walt (Robert Taylor), Vic (Katee Sackhoff), Henry (Lou Diamond Phillips), Cady (Cassidy Freeman) and the rest of the amazing cast. I am looking forward to as well as sad to watch Season 6 of Longmire here in a few months. Thank You Netflix for reviving this show as well as a few of my favorite TV Shows.

TO THE POWERS THAT BE:
I LOVE “LONGMIRE”. In fact, this show is the No.1 reason I subscribed to Netflix. The characters and story lines are really really good and I cannot imagine WHY any network would cancel it. If at all possible, I’d love to see a Season 7 & 8 & 9………. This show DOES have a large following and if the actors are willing why not let the show continue? PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!

Can’t wait to see how the show wraps up. I agree this is one of the best series made in recent history. Sorry to see it end but glad it’s on their own terms.

I did not watch this series when it was on A&E, but I started watching it on Netflix. I really enjoyed Longmire and Hate to see it end. I watched the same happen with the Sons of Anarchy. Creative minds run out of story line. I would like to see Netflix or some other network pick up this series for more seasons. It is one of the few series that could go on for 10 seasons. How does Standing Bear do running the Casino? Does Night Horse actually go to prison?
