EXCLUSIVE: Kevin’s efforts have gone unrewarded. ABC has cancelled Kevin (Probably) Saves the World after one season, multiple insiders inform RenewCancelTV.
The cancellation comes despite Kevin receiving an additional episode order last week.
While episode extensions can be a sign of encouragement in the renewal rat race, Kevin‘s scant three-episode increase falls well short of a full-season pickup.
Kevin follows Marvel’s Inhumans, Ten Days in the Valley and The Mayor into ABC’s one-and-done cancellation graveyard this season.
ABC did not immediately respond to RenewCancelTV’s request for comment.
RIP.
Chuck says
“Kevin” needs more time to save the world. It’s a very different and enjoyable show. It doesn’t open with someone discovering a dead body each week like so many shows. It has a “nice” vibe. ABC should reconsider renewing this show. We need something”different” to watch like “Kevin”.
Judi says
I agree! It had a UNIQUE PREMISE. It never eve hand a chance to grow. I liked the idea that even the selfish can learn to give. It had a good lesson. They should reconsider.
Lynne Satterfield says
Agreed! This is my FAVORITE new show! So different. Kevin is so endearing and I am enjoying a respite from all the reality tv. AND its family friendly!
ABC would be insane to cancel! PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW!
Tammy says
I looked forward to watching this every week. Finally something that doesn’t have killings and zombies. Don’t’ cancel. Much appreciated in Georgia.
Lin says
I am at the point where I hate ABC. They cancel the really good shows…Forever and The Catch before, and now this! SHAME on you, ABC! I am sick of the stupid shows you continually renew…the viewers must be lemmings. Kevin was different, extremely funny, and not run of the mill.
Kelly Mata says
NOOOOO …. I love this new show !!!! Please renew ✅
elizabeth says
I really liked the first few episodes of KEVIN PROBABLY SAVES THE WORLD and then I thought it got a little bit silly and slapstick. I love the heart and the messages of the episodes but please more heart to the stories and less comedy and being silly. Would love to see more episodes because we need more family drama. Hope ABC considers.
Glenn Smiley says
Kevin saves the world is the only show I watch and look forward to every week.
Susan E. Love says
i am a little crushed! this was one of the reasons i watched more tv than usual this year.
kayla dauzat says
By time you know ABC will be playing nothing. Every new show put on is canceled. They play new show and they get drop like Ten Day in the Valley and Wisdom of the crowd, they are good show and ABC decide canceled with not give it chance.
bob says
Kevin (Probably) Saves the World is the best show on abc wtf abc sucks
Susan E. Love says
yes! i shared this show with my daughter when i came to visit, and with my friend when i called her. we all enjoyed it. i don’t understand what they are thinking.
jack says
another bad call by ABC..just stop every good family show that you can watch with your children is getting canceled ,,i bet they do a another bachelor reality bull crap show
Art says
Totally agree. This is a great show. ABC, gets it wrong again. Please change your mind.
Nope says
Staring at Joanna Garcia was the only good thing about this show. It was pandering and blatant Christian propaganda.
Tom says
What about all trashy reality shows. This was a good family show. I generally don’t comment on other people’s post, but there is nothing the matter with a Christian based tv show on a major network. This is part of the problem in the world around us, Christian values are removed from everyday life. Just my opinion and no disrespect to you.
Michael says
That’s why they cancelled the TOP rated show Last Man Standing. It was a great family show that was canned for being conservative. Sex, drugs, murder and cheating sells for abc. That’s why we no longer watch abc. If they don’t suport us and our values then we won’t suport them!
Richard says
It was a pleasant diversion from the crime scene and serial killer dramas and the amateur yodeling and gymnastics disguised as “singing and dancing” contests.
James Moses says
…..like ‘Timeless’ and ‘This Us’ on NBC Universal (a network which I have NO interest in other THAN the former) ‘Kevin…..’ was the relative calm inside an absolute STORM of even WORSE familial dysfunction, was very universal in its messages (RARELY were the themes, storylines Judeo-Christian-specific) and STRONGLY evoked shows like ‘Northern Exposure ‘, ‘Picket Fences’, ‘Everwood’ and yes, the network’s own ‘LOST’, even Barry Watson’s one post-‘7th Heaven’ series television venture, ‘What About Brian’…..LIKE to say this is just ABC’s conceit – but CBS cut ‘Me, Myself & I’s throat WAY too soon, JUST as Moynihan was finding his voice 🙁
James Moses says
‘…..This IS Us’ – inadvertently omitted that middle word…..
James Moses says
…..once ‘The Middle’ and then ‘Modern Family’ wrap fort heir final times, I am DONE with ABC and Disney – ENOUGH. I’ll watch ‘The Goldbergs’ in syndication…..
Lorraine says
I love this show. I knew it would be too nice to last. So typical of TV today. Keep the shows with violence , worshipping the devil and blood and gore and get rid of the wholesome feel good show. Shame on you ABC.
Liz says
Such a shame that once again a show we truly enjoy is cancelled! Not sure what the networks are thinking!?!? Finally had something with an original idea rather than just another throwback to an old show. Sad that writers finally had an original thought and it doesn’t make it and crap television like the Kardashian’s and the Bachelor continue to get more airtime!
Laura says
Kevin (Probably) Saves the world is a great show, I love it. it calms me down. You are idiots to cancel this show. I look forward to seeing it which it comes on.
Patty R says
ABC….you suck. You always cancel the shows I enjoy. 😛
Sally Broadhurst says
I really don’t understand why this beat show is being cancelled? Jason Ritter does a great job carrying the show and it is nice to see a show with wonderful story lines. ABC needs to adjust their attitude toward good shows tgat they keep cancelling. This was a good family show and should have been promoted better.!
Sally Broadhurst says
On the above note it should have read neat little show.
Scott says
This is the best new comedy in a long time! You cancel this and bring back Idol?!? You suck!
I am so sick of the same tired old shows. Everything is about superhero comics, a hospital, or cops. This show is upbeat, funny, witty. How 2 broke girls gets rating and this doesn’t is beyond me. I guess this show isn’t dumb enough for the masses.
Irene says
Big mistake for ABC. Upbeat with interesting twists, leaves you feeling good about life for a change. We need more of this type and much less of the superhero, twisted and beyond reality, and violence-promoting programs.
SandraC says
This is why people are going to streaming instead of watching the networks. If you like a show it’s for sure it will be canceled. God forbid it be family oriented. They need to give shows time to gain their audience before the cancel it.
Frances Hammer says
I love this show, sorry to see it being cancelled…
Sheila says
You have GOT to be kidding! This is a good show! You’re not going to have the numbers you used to have pre cable and streaming. At least consider the audience you Do have. I’m soooo sick and tired of watching new shows on the Networks because they always get cancelled! What is the point of getting invested in a new show if it is going to be a waste of time any way. I feel like just watching reruns of old shows on YouTube or wherever. We all should ban all the networks!
Mary Noel Veltri says
Love this show and I am hard to please. It makes it point without being preachy.
Truelly, if it doesn’t appeal to the 18-35 audience, it will be cancelled. But what about the rest of us, we need SOMETHING To watch too?
Jane Rohrbaugh says
Kevin is a unique and different show with a twist and its stars do a great job!! It has a slight religious thing going in its premise but not enough to turn off the uninterested. Certainly not based on the Bible. It is funny, wonderful characterizations and a real sense of ensemble among the cast, especially for being new to each other. Why bring out a show if you’re not going to give it s season at least (sometimes more) to find its audience? We don’t need any more reality shows, formulaic medical or cop shows but we do need quirky delightful shows that make us feel better for watching them! Told my husband this was too good to last! And by the way, we don’t need anymore shows from the past either.. Good writing (which Kevin is) feels fresh and interesting. But, hey, there just wasn’t enough bad language, violence, potty humor or immorality of every kind being shoved in your face. I could scream!
Marion Emery says
Oh I am sad I really like this show it was cute and Jason Ritter was so good
such a shame when a good show comes on and they don’t give it a real chance.
Jamie says
This is one of the few shows my family and I watch together. I DVR everything I watch, please count those that are DVRing. We watch that night or the next. Give Kevin a chance!
NME says
I also think it’s a mistake to cancel Kevin. I was glad to see Jason and Joanna on a
good show without bad language and murder on it. It’s funny and a feel food show.
I hope they change their minds. I can’t believe ABC has gone downhill like they have.
JANET says
This is such a cute show and Jason Ritter is a great actor. It is a show the whole family can watch…..please don’t replace it with a show that is all killing, stealing, military missions type. It’s nice to see clean living for a change.
Tony says
Gutted this has been cancelled – not surprised but still gutted. My wife and I have been really enjoying this show as its a nice change form all the doom and gloom in most shows. Seeing how many have posted here it looks like a lot of people feel the same – what a pity it didn’t have more viewers. Jason Ritter is spot on in the lead role – I loved him in Another Period but he’s really stepped up here. Plus its nice to see Gunn from Angel in a show again 🙂
Joan Mullin says
I hate to see Kevin>>>>>>the world cancelled. I watched it by accident and then went back and watched what I missed. I really have enjoyed it. Shame on you for canceling it.
Michael says
People stop watching these new shows because they don’t want to get involved in them just to have them cancelled after 1 season. A LARGE GROUP of us are still boycotting abc for getting rid of LMS Last Man Standing so it doesn’t really matter to us who they cut now. Im waiting to see Last Man On Earth get the boot. THATS THE WORST SHOW IN TELIVISION HISTORY. ITS A STUPID STUPID SHOW!
Tim says
So once again a funny thoughtful show gets cancelled & The Kartrashains keep pumping shyt out. And to top it all off Jersey Shore is coming back
Mamai says
This is a wonderful show so please leave it on!
Beth says
What are you thinking ABC? This is the first show in ages I actually look forward to watching each week. It has a GREAT cast, its a fun, feel good kind of show that you can watch with the entire family. You keep all these other crappy shows on but feel the need to cancel this one?!? Are you CRAZY? Why would you axe it so early in the season – let people discover it, enjoy it and grow with it. You didn’t even give it a chance. It already has a good following and if left on to grow, so would the audience. COME ON – rethink your decision!
Brenda says
I caught the first two episodes and got holiday busy. I liked it a lot and planned to binge to catch up. Ready now, and just found out about cancellation. Is there some type of wrap-up or should I just not bother? Ritter was in another cancelled- to -soon project called The Class, years ago. He was a cutie then, and still cute now. I see a resemblance to his talented dad. I hope he gets something good soon with staying power. Same wish for J. August Richards and Joanna Garcia Swisher!
Dawn says
So we finally have a great wholesome show to watch that my 14yr old son loves and you cancel it but leave smut on the TV im so disappointed
Lea Davis says
If they we smart, ABC would give it a great earlier prime time spot. 9 p.m. central is later for my kids to watch but we record it and watch as a family the next day. It’s a family show and it’s going up against the trash on the other networks. They never gave it a real chance.
Netflix!
Manuel says
What!?!?!? I can’t believe that ABC is seriously going through with this! You’re bringing back American Idol, you carried the crazy super hero shows (which were not interesting), and you’re canceling Kevin!? This show has a good cast, with decent writing!!! It was kind of original (almost like the cancelled CBS show about the guardian angel that had HORRIBLE writers). Give this show a chance! If you’re not satisfied with it, look at where it is in you’re line up or change the writers! Seinfeld was given some chances and worked with (not that this will ever be that big of a hit), but with sooooo much trashy reality tv that I never watch (and I know I’m not alone) this show deserves to be helped. Tv networks keep making Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon originals look better and better. What a shame that you chose to bring back something soooo original like American Idol ( which I still won’t watch). Side note… bringing Idol back from the dead? Did you not watch Flatliners (first or second time)? I will truly miss this show 🙁 You make me want to work for you to help you make better decisions with your programming.
Judy says
Please don’t cancel Kevin. This is one of my favorite shows. It makes me laugh out loud. I record it and watch it later in the evening. I haven’t missed an episode. Please, please renew this great family show.
Laura says
Just terrible! Was SO needed on tv!!! My 18 yr old daughter and I watched it and loved it together! We are so sorry you made this decision!
Mary says
Feel the same as many others who posted. Kevin is a great show. They are not pushing religion down your throat (which some may not have watched because they thought it would be religious). They show is smut free which is a huge plus for watching with the kids. My 14 yr. old son loves it too. It was funny with good stories. So disappointed but figured it would happen because no one wants to watch an original family friendly show. With the exception of reality shows (SO FAKE) I give every show a chance. Everyone should have given this one a chance, I’m sure they would have loved it. So many crappy shows on TV, and for crying out loud stop bringing back old shows, like American Idol and Roseanne.
Rae says
I agree with the above posts. I’m not a very religious person but I’m a spiritual one and I really liked this show! Jason Ritter is so fun and enjoyably awkward. I really loved the entire cast. It was diverse and family friendly. I knew somehow it would be cancelled because the networks are money mongering morons that wouldn’t know a good show if it bit them right in the arse. All the best shows on tv get cancelled nowadays but shows like “The Kardashians” can drag on and on and on….. I always think of Seinfeld, one of my favorite shows of all times. It wasn’t picked up right away and was shopped around because it had weak ratings. It took several years to become a hit! How can a show be cancelled after the first year? It shows just how lame TV has become. That is why I only really watch Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu and I don’t even have regular network TV. I gave this show a chance because it was light and refreshing! Shame on you ABC for not seeing that some of us still want to watch something of value!
Elle E. Fuetch says
Of course ABC is going to cancel this show! They’re a bunch of morons who can’t let families have any type of show that doesn’t deal with all of the drama and “politically correct” bs that they love to shove down our throats! This show was awesome. Jason Ritter was perfect as were the rest of the cast. It wasn’t a predictable show. That’s what was so GREAT about it. The comedy wasn’t forced and it just always brought happiness, no strings attached, while it was on the television. ABC and the rest of the Hollywood morons just do not seem to get it, if they keep handing out their same old unoriginal garbage, we’re not going to watch. This is ABC’s second blow to our family. Last Man Standing was another favorite of ours but they just couldn’t handle having a realistic comedy with actually family situations minus the political drama run. This is why I am a Netflix, Hallmark channel, and dvd watcher now.
Prime time television blows!
S. Wood says
I love this show!. I am an atheist, but even I enjoy the premise of this program. I have never watched more than one episode of any reality show and ever will. Keep bringing the dung shows back and cancelling good ones filled with hope and happiness, and you won’t have more than a handful of viewers. This is one of only three network shows we watch. Thank (chose your deity) for Netflix and cable!
Jean Adkins says
Oh my? Really? Really? So they cancel one of THE best shows in a long time with a new premise – and leave us with all the other garbage choices! They are losing viewers all right because every single time I get involved and LOVE a show – they don’t give it a real chance to gain a good solid audience. I’m about done with network television. This show is quirky – yes. It keeps me interested and trying to second- guess what might happen next. It’s unpredictable and that’s one of the reasons I love it. It makes me sad on very rare occasions- but it makes me laugh out loud every single week. I am so disappointed in ABC.
Barbara Smith says
Once again I am so disappointed in ABC for cancelling the best new show this season. People wonder what is wrong with our culture, but all you see on TV now is filth and violence. When a good family show comes on, they don’t even give it a chance. Sometimes it takes a couple of seasons for people to know it’s even on because the networks cancel and bring on new shows so quickly This was a great, funny, and heart-warming show with great stories and wonderful characters. It was quirky and different, but I always looked forward to watching it.. WHY, WHY, WHY does ABC do this? Last Man Standing was my other favorite family show that ABC cancelled, and that wasn’t because of low ratings. I will be watching less and less of ABC and the other networks until they can broadcast some decent family shows. I LOVED THIS SHOW!!
Gail says
Are you kidding me…? Cancelling a wonderful show like this…! Everyone above is right – it was inspiring, fun and no gore or dead bodies! How sick is ABC?
Barbara Folse says
I was shocked and dismayed to find out that Kevin (Probably) Saves the World was canceled. It was one of the most enjoyable shows on TV. My 16 year old daughter and I enjoyed watching it together every week – and as any parent of a teenager knows, getting a teenager to do anything with you is like pulling teeth! I’ve been looking forward to the next season since the last episode a few weeks ago. I’ve told several of my friends about the show Please reconsider!
Tracy says
I can’t believe ABC is not going to renew this show! This is the best show on TV right now. It’s clean, very funny and entertaining. It’s truly my favorite show and look forward to seeing it each week. DON’T cancel the show. Quite honestly, I don’t think ABC did a good job at promoting the show. Promote it for goodness sakes!
CS Symin says
This is literally the ONLY show I watch on any network any longer. I am so disappointed not to have this ONE single non-violent, sweet, funny, creative entertainment anymore. It’s time to ditch the TV altogether.
Susan D says
Definitely getting to that point! I watch a lot of old shows on Netflix
Bebe says
One of the best new shows on tv. Everyone I know that watched it ..loved it.. It’s a terrible decision to cancel.
smiths says
I love this show. I knew it would be too nice to last.
linda carlson says
I don’t have cable, tv sucks. But i know what’s on tv, nothing good if you ask me. I found this on view yahoo and i love it. All the actors and their characters are great. I watched episode 9 about 20 times, couldn’t help it. Something this good and they want to get rid of it. Really shows you where this country is at when trash is kept and something so good is thrown away.
Susan D says
I’m not surprised ABC cancelled it. Think about other shows full of greed, lust, anything “edgy”. This show was clean, fun, and easy to watch without being bombarded by offense content. Usually know that if I love a show, it will be short-lived!
Marvin B says
At a loss for words. I am extremely saddened by the news that Kevin PSTW is cancelled. This is a GREAT show; GOOD CLEAN CONTENT. So sad about this move. Why ABC? Why? I wonder if another network can pick the show up?
Susan R says
DO. NOT. CANCEL. THIS. SHOW!!!!!!!!!
James Williams says
Maybe Fox or SYFY could pick up show?
Loved Jason Ritter since Joan of Arcadia, another show, with great cast, ended before it’s time
Chrissy says
Plz plz don’t cancel this show
