Work begins on second series of record-breaking BBC Wales drama
Eve Myles has been utterly brilliant and I know she’d be the first to say she was supported by a remarkable cast and the terrific production team at Vox.
Last night viewers bid farewell to Faith Howells and her troubled family in the final episode of the hit drama Keeping Faith. Today BBC Wales has announced that a script for a second series is in development
The eight-part series, starring Eve Myles (Broadchurch/Victoria), has broken a string of records over recent weeks.Almost 300,000 in Wales have watched each of the weekly episodes on BBC One Wales, the highest audiences for a non-network drama shown in Wales for over twenty years.
The series has also proved a record-breaker on BBC iPlayer, with over 5 million requests to view the series so far – the highest ever number recorded for any non-network show on the BBC.
The series, produced by Vox Pictures, was jointly-commissioned with S4C and has benefitted directly from the new reinvestment secured by BBC Wales to expand its English-language programming.Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Wales says: “This series has been a real gem from start to finish – and it’s testament to the strength of drama coming out of Wales right now.
“Eve Myles has been utterly brilliant and I know she’d be the first to say she was supported by a remarkable cast and the terrific production team at Vox. Series two development is underway and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
“The Charter reinvestment has been a total game-changer for us and Keeping Faith is one of a series of hits for BBC Wales which can be directly linked to the new funding.”
The series tells the story of lawyer, wife and mother Faith (Myles) as she fights to find the truth behind the sudden disappearance of her husband. (BBC)
