ITV has reversed its renewal plans for Home Fires.
As confirmed by the cast and crew, the broadcaster has axed the period drama after two series (seasons), ruling out the previously-announced third series:
So, it is with huge sadness I must tell you that #HomeFires has been cancelled. Awful to leave stories untold and lives incomplete. Sorry.

So very sorry that #Homefires won't be back. We loved making the show & that it was well received by so many made it all the more special.

Devastated we can't complete the #homefires story. The most incredible cast and crew ever. Apparently 6m wonderful viewers not enough.

Cast members Daniel Ryan and Mark Umbers confirm that four episodes had already been written for Series 3, further pointing towards a change of mind by the broadcaster’s renewal gods:
Well I know that 4 new episodes had been written so best to believe exactly that X https://t.co/HlAqP1Ty6v

At least half of Season 3 had been written. All the storylines mapped out. There would have been some seriously good stuff… #homefires

For its part, ITV issued its standard statement when axing a show:
“We are incredibly proud of what Home Fires has achieved, but the ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel’s drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series.”
The second series left off on a cliffhanger, meaning Home Fires will forever hang unresolved — unless another broadcaster rescues it from the graveyard (or there’s another ITV reversal). Stay tuned…
RIP.

What an absolute joke!!! This programme was fantastic. Lovely Sunday night viewing and you go and cancel it on a cliffhanger!! Ridiculous

ITV has cancelled another excellent show. They did the same for Beowulf. I have my doubt about watching anything developed by these people. I am irritated beyond belief. Both shows had NO ending and the stories left hanging.

Don’t forget Jericho, Brief Encounters and The Halcyon.

I am really sad, No Home fires anymore, the story must go on..snik..I’ll hang on and will believe that a another broadcaster will rescue the series. And that the story continue.

This series is fantastic,to leave it up in the air without any sort of closure is such a shame.Great costumes, great story could do another 2 series at least,im sure other viewers agree. When you see half the rubbish that keeps going and going and something as good as this gets canned.Very Disappointing.

Everybody in Britain, Ireland, North America and Oceania please sign up on Change.org if you want ITV to reconsider about bringing Home Fires back for a third season. You can get all your friends and all your families to join in. We need to reach over 50,000.

What a pity the British networks are just as dumb as the American ones when it comes to cancelling good shows while leaving garbage on the air…..
