Galaxy Quest almost got a sequel at Amazon. However, plans to revive the 1999 sci-fi film have been shelved following the death of Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell revealed on Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist podcast, per TVLine:
“They were going to do a sequel on Amazon. We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available – he has [Last Man Standing] – and everybody’s schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill.
It’s not quite clear whether the planned sequel was the Galaxy Quest TV series in the works at Amazon last year, per EW:
EW learned last year that a TV series based on the film had landed at Amazon, though it was in its early stages and it’s unclear whether this sequel project was linked to it.
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the cancel/renew status of the Galaxy Quest TV series…
