Mary Beard to anchor a new live Front Row on BBC Two
I am really excited about this – live and late on a Friday! I think I can promise that it will be edgy, from the heart and from the head!
The BBC today announced that well-known Cambridge classicist and cultural broadcaster, Mary Beard, will present the forthcoming BBC Two series of Front Row, which will broadcast – for the first time – live on Friday nights at 11pm.
The Front Row television series (6×30′), from BBC Studios, is continuing to evolve and will be broadcast live from this spring. Mary and her guests will focus on vibrant and challenging discussion of the big ideas behind the week’s artistic developments on Friday nights, building on BBC Two’s commitment to showcasing the best of arts and culture. The series will act as a rich forum for cultural debate, critical reviews and interviews.
Mary Beard says: “I am really excited about this – live and late on a Friday! I think I can promise that it will be edgy, from the heart and from the head!”
Alice Feinstein, Commissioner of Front Row says: “Mary’s take on the week in arts and culture is bound to be dynamic and exciting as she has the fearless intellect, critical eye and warm wit to host a discussion of the week’s talking points.”
Patrick Holland, Controller BBC Two says: ‘‘Mary Beard is one of the most thought provoking intellectuals in the UK and a defining voice for BBC Two. I am delighted that she’s agreed to take the lead with this evolution of Front Row on Two.”
Mary Beard presented the sixth episode of BBC Two’s Front Row last October, where she explored The Roman Singularity exhibition at the Sir John Soane’s Museum in London and reviewed Jean-René Lemione’s startling contemporary reimagining of Greek legend Medea.
Mary is also presenting two programmes in the forthcoming landmark BBC Arts series, Civilisations on BBC Two as well as an additional programme to accompany the series called Civilisations on your Doorstep (BBC Two).
Front Row brings audiences high quality arts and culture content across BBC TV, radio and online. As with Radio 4’s flagship arts and culture programme, Front Row charts for a BBC Two audience the changing landscape of the arts through critical review and debate.
The Front Row TV series was commissioned by Patrick Holland, Controller, BBC Two and Jonty Claypole, Director of Arts. It is produced by BBC Studios and is Executive Produced by Tanya Hudson. Alice Feinstein is the Editor of Front Row on all platforms. (BBC)
