Foyle’s War was cancelled after eight seasons in 2015, with UK broadcaster ITV citing high production costs.
However, series creator Anthony Horowitz believes the show’s demise was inevitable anyway, having running out of narrative, per Digital Spy:
“I’ve written 26 two-hour films for that show. 17 years of my life have been devoted to Foyle’s War. It had to come to an end sometime. We went from 1940 all the way through to 1947 – and I told countless true stories about the war. I felt that there were no more true stories to tell about that period, I’d sort of covered pretty much every area.
Foyle’s War may be in cancellation hell, but Horowitz believes it will have a strong afterlife:
“I’m sad to see it gone, but it’s still out there and people are still watching it. That’s one of the wonders of the digital age.”

Hi
whilst I understand what Anthony Horowitz has said I understand plans were quite well advanced for a spin-off series provisionally called ‘ Foyle’s Cold War ‘ with spy/conspiracy story narrative based in the 50s and early 60s
I & 100,000s of fans are hoping that Foyle’s Cold War will be re-commissioned
here’s hoping
