The Exorcist has been cancelled for months with no Season 3.
Speaking to Deadline, FOX chief Gary Newman opened up on the reasons behind the show’s two-season demise:
Putting the horror series on Friday nights was “tough for that show. We had hoped that we would be able to tap into a moviegoing crowd who didn’t want to go out to the movies… and we did get some viewership. I thought the show was incredibly well produced, the stories were great.”
Are you disappointed by the death of The Exorcist? Hoping for an unlikely revival elsewhere or spinoff series?

I REALLY loved this show…Sucked that it was on a Friday night though.
Always thought it would do better maybe on the SyFy channel…Hopefully they will pick it up.

So the Fox chairman admits they screwed up and immediately takes a pay cut and fires those who suggested putting it on Friday. Oh, wait, no, that would require some integrity, it’s easier to punish the cast, crew, and viewers of the “incredibly well produced” show that had great stories. Is it any surprise most TV viewers think television executives are a bunch of clueless morons?

I really enjoyed the show – I thought it got even better in season 2 and was really looking forward to season 3. It was very well produced unlike most of the garbage on network TV. Its a shame that some really good shows get cancelled too soon.

Yeah this was a horrible move from the network, not only was the acting, writing and directing well done but the show was actually kinda scary/freaky for being on TV, and the special effects were better then some movies I’ve seen with multi-million dollar budgets. I also think this show was produced better then some shows on the big name movie channels, so canceling it was just a dumb move by fox. I just don’t get the world of TV shows lol because they always cancel the better shows and they keep all the dumb ones, it’s freaking ass-backwards! But these networks ask for our loyalty towards they’re channel and shows but it’s us who should be demanding loyalty from them since they keep canceling all our favorite shows so it seems that they’re not being loyal towards keeping they’re viewers/fans happy and properly entertained!! I think we may need to boycott the network’s shows to get our point across and have them stop canceling shows that have more happy viewers then haters, or get them to switch to an international wide voting system that determines if a show will get renewed or not.
Sincerely,
– Josh C.

This was one of my favorites shows to watch. I am a true fan of The Exorcist.. .moveis and the show. I have studied the paranormal in the past and shows like this have a special meaning. My husband was personally affected by demonic forces several years ago in his home country and took about a year to overcome.
It appears most networks cut any TV show that has a high production cost/value and substitutes for low budget programming all to raise profits. A network would gain a more loyal viewership by providing consistent quality programming

Since the move to “reality” programming seems to be dominating television perhaps the show could come back as “The Bachelorcist” or “America’s Next Top Exorcist” or even “The Real Exorcists of Vatican City”!
Lyne Machabée says
I loved that show! it’s different then all the cops and hospital shows on right now. The acting was amazing, the cinematography beautiful, great writing…I’m very sad… Hope Fx will pick it up.

if a show doesnt do well in the age group they target … it gets axed … someone needs to tell these TV executives that Baby Boomers grew up on TV … we should be their targeted age group … then maybe we wouldnt get so involved and attached only to have our favorite shows cancelled all the time … signed … sick to death of stupid TV executives !

I loved the Exorcist, they take good shows off and leave crappie ones on. That was the only show that I watched on fox.
ReneCat says
Well, FOX the only way I will keep watching your “network” is if you renew Gotham for season 5! And I know I can’t be the only person who feels this way! You put great shows on terrible days-or MOVE them to terrible days- and then expect miraculous ratings. Idiots are running these networks.
