Channel 4 has commissioned Twofour to produce a 1 x 60’ documentary revisiting some of the students and teachers who won the nation’s heart in Educating Yorkshire.
Educating Yorkshire One Year On will explore what they are up to now and how their lives have changed over the last twelve months.
The documentary will catch up with head teacher Mr Mitchell and his staff, including Mr Burton and Mr Steer, as well as pastoral heads Mrs Crowther and Mrs Marsden as they prepare for the end of the school year and GCSEs results in August.
The programme also finds out what many of the students are up to. Robbie Joe and Ryan are continuing to make their mark at school. Musharaf has finished his first year at college, Sheridan is learning to drive, and Georgia has had a very momentous year. We’re back for results day too, following Bailey and Tom collecting their GCSEs, and then transmitting on television that night.
Documentaries Commissioning Editor David Brindley says: “Before we introduce viewers to the wonderful new ‘Educating’ school in East London we could not miss this opportunity to catch up with the national treasures of Educating Yorkshire from latte-loving Ryan to indomitable head Mr Mitchell. It is has been a busy year for Thornhill but the staff have remained as devoted as ever to bringing out the best in their students and ex students.”
David Clews said: “It’s fantastic being able to catch up with the much-loved students of Thornhill, and a privilege seeing them grow up into successful young adults. We’re actually on TV the same day the GCSE results come out. Following some of our Yorkshire favourites as they open their envelopes, and Mr Mitchell and his team as they find out how well Thornhill has done this year. Exciting but also a little terrifying.”
Educating Yorkshire One Year On was commissioned by David Brindley and is executive produced by David Clews, Andrew Mackenzie-Betty and Gyles Neville for Twofour. Educating Yorkshire was the highest rating series on Channel 4 in 2013, receiving 9 industry awards and critical acclaim.
The Educating… series returns later this year with a brand new documentary series following a school in East London’s Walthamstow.
