(Los Angeles) – Adventurer and explorer Josh Gates has spent his career crossing the globe to investigate the world’s most intriguing mysteries. Now, Josh is back and headed to the farthest reaches of the earth to explore legends that have remained unsolved for centuries. From an epic adventure in the Middle East in search of new Dead Sea Scrolls to a two-part mission into the remote mountains of Siberia in the dead of winter, Gates will need every bit of his daring spirit — and signature sense of humor — as he takes viewers on thrilling adventures in search of answers to the world’s greatest mysteries in a brand-new season of EXPEDITION UNKNOWN, premiering Wednesday, August 7 at 9PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel. In addition, Gates will kick off SHARK WEEK 2019 and dive into shark-infested waters to unravel one of the oceans greatest mysteries – what happened to the mighty Megalodon? EXPEDITION UNKNOWN: MEGALODON airs Sunday, July 28th at 8PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel.
This season, Josh Gates connects with innovative researchers and uses cutting-edge technology to tackle history’s most challenging mysteries. The search for answers – and adventure – will take him into the most extreme climates on the planet, as he braves sub-zero temperatures to snowmobile across the Siberian Tundra investigating one of the coldest cases of the Cold War: the baffling deaths of nine hikers on Russia’s infamous Dead Mountain. Josh also takes on the scorching heat of the Negev Desert as he descends into newly discovered caves and tunnels that could hold the next Dead Sea Scrolls. In addition, Gates dives into the waters of Panama and the mysteries of Sir Frances Drake’s lost fortune. And, bushwhacking into the rainforest of Puerto Rico, Josh pushes his limits (and the boundaries of science) to explain the infamous cryptid, the Chupacabra.
In an exciting EXPEDITION UNKNOWN first, Josh returns to follow up on some of his most fascinating stories from seasons past, revisiting the lost city of El Mirador and going back to the 1980’s to crack the perplexing puzzles of “The Secret.” Every week, Josh will take viewers around the world in 60 minutes, solving some of the planet’s greatest mysteries in the heart-pounding new season of EXPEDITION UNKNOWN.
