Doctor Who spinoff Class has been cancelled after one season, according to reports.
Per The Mirror, low ratings have put paid to the show’s chances of Season 2:
Ratings were so low, both online and for the BBC1 repeat, it now looks like school’s out forever.
Class launched on BBC iPlayer in October, but despite Peter Capaldi appearing as the Time Lord in the first episode, got just 660,000 views.
Not one of the eight episodes made it into the top 50 weekly shows viewed on-demand. The series also fared badly in the late-night BBC1 repeats, where it was aired in four double bills.
A show source said: “Class hasn’t been the success the BBC were hoping for.”
The cancellation comes ahead of the show’s April 15 US launch on BBC America.
RIP.
Is the Beeb bluffing or has Class been axed as reported? Stay tuned for further updates.

Typical BBC. Create great shows and quickly cancel them! Many dramas that everybody likes rarely get passed a second short season. And have to be taken up by somebody else to continue or are lost forever no matter what the audience feels about them! #TheFoureyedPoet.

But this one was NOT a good show. In fact it was truly awful and should never have got beyond episode 1 never mind any talk of a 2nd season! It is becoming MORE typical of the BBC today to create something no one wants to watch!

Gave it a go but just couldn’t enjoy Class. Dr Who on the other hand I will miss. I would have enjoyed another season.

I see Class as a lackluster attempt at replicating the success of Buffy in a Doctor Who Universe setting. After watching the show, I hardly care about any of the characters. Quill seemed to be the most memorable. It’s a shame. It could have been fun.
@Kevin:
Except that Doctor Who has not been cancelled. True, Moffat, Capaldi, Mackie and Gomez will be leaving the show, but Chibnall will take over in 2018 with a new Doctor and a new companion.
I’m not saying that everything is okay with Doctor Who though. Doctor Who Confidential – cancelled. The minisodes and webisodes that so many people loved – cancelled. Doctor Who at the Proms – won’t happen, apparently Doctor Who is not highbrow enough and “does not bring in new classical music fans”. Not to mention that Murray Gold’s music became subdued,it is no longer an epic companion to the visual delivery and the narrative, it is now more like a shy underling.
Considering the slowly declining viewer numbers, Chibnall really has his work cut out for him.

It’s funny because over state side it’s doing well. Not AS well as Dr. Who but a lot better than Dirk Gently and even Orphan Black did when they were given first run 10PM airings. Maybe that success will spur them to change their mind.
