Swedish broadcaster SVT has renewed The Bridge for Series 4, which is set to be the last in the crime drama’s run.
The 8-episode fourth season is slated to premiere in 2018 in the Nordic countries.
SVT’s head of drama, Christian Wikander, said of the renewal:
“It feels very promising. Expectations are enormous and it is a big challenge to create a new season, but from what I have seen so far it feels like it lives up to those expectations,”
Sofia Helin and Thure Lindhardt will both reprise their roles as Swedish and Danish detectives Saga Norén and Henrik Sabroe in the new season, which picks up around a year-and-a-half after the Season 3 finale.
Writer Hans Rosenfeldt told the Expressen tabloid:
“That’s good because you can skip a lot, a lot may have happened.
Could there be a fifth season? Rosenfeldt previously revealed that Season 4 will be the last in the series:
“I think there will be a fourth one but that will be the last one. We have a storyline. It’s a different place where they start, a very different place.”
However, SVT has yet to officially confirm that Season 4 will be the final chapter.
