An extension to the Big Brother franchise, Big Brother: Over The Top arrives on CBS All Access tonight, but its long-term future will hinge on the number of subscribers it brings to the service, host Julie Chen tells THR:
I had a million questions like, how, when, why? All of the typical journalist questions. In my mind, when I first heard it, I thought it was going to be exactly like the broadcast version in terms of the production value, three episodes online a week instead of on broadcast. We had to figure out how to do it without it costing as much as it does for the broadcast version. At least for this first season, because it remains to be seen how much of a profit can be made, if a profit can be made, if there’s enough of an audience to watch it. I’m a little bit of an old soul. I’m more of a traditional media person. I was like, ” So, how is this going to work?”
Will Big Brother: Over The Top get the audience it needs to stay alive for Season 2? Stay tuned as we monitor the Big Brother: Over The Top Season 2 renewal status…

I hope it doesn’t work. I think it’s a shame CBS charges you to see missed Big Brother as it is. With ball games interfering with seeing the show regularly, to charge for this service seems not right. I won’t pay any more than the cable bill I now pay to watch this show for an additional fee,

I have to say I’ve loved having BB back to back. All the twists and viewer interaction is great. CBS should have it in reg BB also. Kind of like having the old BB back.
