FX has cancelled Tyrant after three seasons. The network has decided not to continue the political thriller into Season 4, with tonight’s Season 3 finale now serving as the series finale.
Announcing the cancellation, FX Networks/FX Productions CEO John Landgraf, said:
“It’s very difficult to find common ground with other people whose stories we do not know or understand. The creators of Tyrant have done their utmost over three seasons to tell American audiences a tiny fraction of the many gripping, human stories coursing through the Middle East today. We want to thank Howard Gordon, Chris Keyser and their talented team of collaborators, including all the writers, directors, cast and crew, as well as our studio partners at Fox 21 Television Studios, for taking on Tyrant’s tremendously ambitious story with such profound dedication and respect.”
Could Tyrant Season 4 find life elsewhere? In a statement, Fox 21 Television Studios President Bert Salke paid lip-service to the prospect of the show moving to another platform:
“We feel the show is a gem and we’d love to find a way to keep it in production. That said, we want to be realistic about its prospects. So for its loyal audience, tonight’s episode will be a satisfying end should the series not find another home, but also provides interesting possibilities should we be able to continue on some other platform.”
Can Tyrant really overthrow the cancellation reaper to return for Season 4 at another outlet, or are the fans just being let down gently? Stay tuned…
RIP.

No loss… season 3 was pretty horrid… season 2 was drudgery to get through….. and season 1 was pretty decent. The staff ruined this and couldn’t write any kind of worthwhile progression in the storyline(s). I think they “blew their load” in season 1.. and didn’t know where to go after that.

I hope they do something for this show, I really like it. I do think they killed Jamal and his other son too soon. Molly’s attitude was too calm to find out her husband was sleeping with that other woman…

I think this is a real shame. I thought it was really good at the moment and a great replacement when Homeland’s not airing. I hope someone picks it up. Perhaps it’s too much of a niche show, but I love having variety in my TV line up. Like the saying goes, “Variety is the spice of life.” I wouldn’t mind seeing Molly disappear for good though. Just a thought!

I do hope TYRANT comes back, really liked the show, and HOMELAND I cant wait for the new season.

Maybe show makes most of the
Non thinking public have to think.
I think Bassam’s acting is too low keyed and unemotional even in intense times.
Miscast for this show. Send him back to doctoring. The women all look alike with the same fake accent otherwise a decent show needing those improvements. Jamal was the best and carried the show. Bathe Chris Noth romance came out of nowhere and he’s not fit for the roll nor a good actor in anything.

I find it amusing, in a cruel way, how anyone could describe the season ending as “satisfying” in any respect. Fans always deserve a real ending and when the networks don’t even try to deliver one, it shows their utter contempt for the viewers.

I like Tyrant. Every show that I take an interest gets cancelled. Getting sick of investing my time and money in television. Reality shows are taking over tv. They are ok but some are trash.

This is very disheartening news. Tyrant was one of the best contemporary political dramas ever made, extremely well-acted, with all kinds of very believable plot twists, and just a bit of a view into the complicated politics that obtain in our current political, economic, civil society, and military world in the Middle East. Plus I am in total love with all the beautiful non-blonde Middle Eastern women (sorry that’s just me) and the absolutely great latitude the writers have had with their conversions in the changing world of Abu Din. Everyone from Moran Atlas playing Leila Al-Fayeed and her conversion from the tyrannical world she grew up and married into, to Meila Kreiling playing Daliyah Al-Yahbek, to many of the other female actresses who show a cerebral, emotional, change making, and brave side not often show in Western film or TV. Even the young actress who played a suicide bomber brought a great deal of depth to her role. Anyway, I hope there is a possible chance this series can continue, but I doubt if the economics behind it will allow for that. I really enjoyed it and am very sorry to see it go. I wish best of luck to all involved and thanks for some serious and enjoyable dramatic TV.

Season 3 is sitting on my TiVo waiting for me to have time to dedicate to watching it, but I liked the first two seasons, so based on those, I’ll miss this show. Hopefully someone else will pick it up, looking at the cancellations there will be lots of networks with space to fill.

I loved this show, must have been a politically correct move by FX. Sucks to be sure. I am guessing they didn’t want to offend any ethnic groups.

Was just getting good. Wish the hell when they know they are going to cancel they made a ENDING instead of just leaving you hanging …pisses me off when they do that.

Every time I invest my self in a great show year after year it gets canceled. Maybe I just stick to comedy, it’s a lot easier to stop watching, except for a few.

This is why I stopped paying for cable I only have the internet and I stream everything. I love this show and this is one that should not be cancelled. The ratings are not right anymore EVERYONE streams now so the ratings are going to be lower, but that does not mean people are not watching it.

Bad Move. Great Show. Another Network needs to pick it up. Too many of these good shows get canceled and their most appreciated audience is just left hanging. Don’t let it happen again……..Renew….
Joe says
FX you think or you have an audience stronger then Tyrant in shows like. Taboo, The Strain, Louie, Better Things? Someone in programming needs to be checked over for their thought process and needs to be REPROGRAMMED. Very disheartening. Makes me want to do away with FX and their thinking.

FX should air Tarzan series, that’s all the are good for! The CEO of FX moranic comment should prove what I said. Yes, some people here may not find common grounds and I say those out of touch people should go and watch CARTONS!! That’s why and how some US population and there is a lot of them are still to this day out of touch with world and if you ask them, they can’t even tell you who the VP of US is!!
Congratulations FX and the moran CEO of FX for doing your best to keep US people back in 1800s or even 50 years ago when they thought US was the world and no place or nobody else existed!! Keep your people dumb, play TARZAN series for them to keep them stupid for ever, they don’t need to know there are other countries and different things happens there. Way to go, you’ve done your share of keeping people including the CEO of FX in dark. Why doesn’t FX start airing Day Of Our Lives series, that’ll be good for the viewers they are after!
