Stargate is being revived as Stargate Origins, a 10-episode digital series that will stream exclusively only dedicated subscription-based platform Stargate Command, per THR:
The new series, which will feature 10-minute episodes, will follow fan-favorite character Catherine Langford (originally played by Elizabeth Hoffman) and explore a new chapter in her early history surrounding the portal. Young Catherine embarks on a new unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save the Earth from darkness.
Kevin Conroy, president of digital and new platforms at MGM, said of the revival:
“We’ve been eager to revisit the ‘Stargate’ franchise, and create an all-new story that honors the founding mythos and gives loyal fans more mystery and adventure. We view ‘Stargate Origins’ as a thank you to fans who have been keeping the spirit of the franchise alive for nearly 25 years. With the increasing popularity of digitally native content that can be streamed to any device, MGM is committed to the production of premium linear mid-form content and are proud to launch with ‘Stargate Origins.’”
The Stargate TV franchise amassed 380 episodes across almost 20 seasons of TV with shows including Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe.
Are you excited for Stargate Origins? Wish the franchise would remain in the TV afterlife?
Stay tuned as we monitor the cancel/renew status of Stargate Origins Season 2…

What? 10-minute episodes? Why bother? I would love to see another series regarding SG1 but again,10-minute episodes! Make a real series with 30 or 60 minute episodes and continue a great franchise for real.

I agree. What a waste of time. Sounds like a money grab from a sponsor. Universe was a hot mess and a giant FAIL. They should bring back a real franchise picking up from Atlantis.
Barbara Lawrence says
I agree with Nikki, but 10-minutes is at least something.

“committed to the production of premium linear mid-form content” Translation – we’re too cheap to actually bring back a great program

Bring me back “real” 50 minute episodes and I’ll watch them for sure.
10 minute episodes, seriously, I won’t waste my time on them, you can’t tell a story in 10 min !

I agree about the ten minute episodes. Silly idea of no real interest to fans other then maybe a passing “meh”. Totally disagree UNIVERSE was a mess and an “giant FAIL”. That’s a pretty stupid statement. The show needed a little work and was well on it’s way to getting it along with a crossover to ATLANTIS looming there as well. But what happened to the ATLANTIS movie ? That’s where the attention should be focused know, not on the past “origins”, for heaven’s sake…

I’d love a continuation of Universe!

I agree!

Let me understand this – we have to pay for 10 minute episodes??

Loved all stargate tv episodes & movies. Loved Universe too and think it ended way too soon. As much as I would love to see new stargate episodes I’m not going to pay to subscribe for any episodes, especially not 10 minute episodes. Already paying enough now for cable & netflix & there’s enough out there for me to watch now, more than I have time for, without paying for more. There’s a limit to how much average folk can dish out to pay for entertainment.

When i first saw a stargate coming back i was happy.than i read what it going to be. 10 minute episode give me a break plus you going back to before the movie .there nothing before the movie other than earnst and they dealt with that allready. another spin off like atlantis is best way to bring back show.have them jump of ship and setup new base somewhere with new evil and aliens.
it bad enough have to pay for cbs access to watch new star trek iam not paying for another one for ten minute eposodes
