The writing has been on the wall for months, but Red Band Society been officially cancelled as attempts to keep the show’s faint Season 2 hopes alive with a summer run and the search for a new network have ended in failure.
The hospital comedy-drama will air all of its 13 ordered episodes before moving on to the cancellation graveyard.
Deadline reports the show’s demise:
According to people close to the matter, Fox had conversations with ABC Studios over the past weeks about ways to keep the show alive. While the series’s soft ratings performance pretty much rules it out as a in-season player on a major broadcast network, I hear the network offered a summer run, which comes with a reduced license fee. That economic model is very hard to make work on a high-end series that had been developed and budgeted for a standard network airing, so I hear the studio would not go through with that.
However, I hear ABC Studios executives, who have been passionate about the concept — developing it twice, first at ABC and then at Fox — didn’t throw in the towel and tried shopping the show to other outlets but couldn’t find a new home.
RIP.

So disappointed that Fox cancelled Red Band Society. The show needed a chance. Why don’t they cancel on the adult cartoons they show on Sunday. The only decent shows the network has left is Bones and after they killed of “Sweets” it’s going downhill. American Idol is getting kind of boring now. Fox used to be my favorite network but it doesn’t have much left to watch.

I agree.

I loved Red Band Society. Great show, so different, a tv show I watched with my teenage kids. There is nothing left to watch on FOX. So dissapointed! Bye Felicia.

I am so disappointed to hear that The Red Band Society has been cancelled. It really hit on some key issues everyday people deal with. Although some of the medical issues weren’t completely realistic, the show does paint a truthful picture of what it is like to be a teenager with a serious illness. Point to take home – they’re still teenagers – no matter what. 🙂 I work in a hospital everyday and am surrounded by very sad, realistic hardships – it was kind of refreshing to watch a show that highlighted the part of the patient that gets lost in the diagnosis – their humanity.

I am so disappointed that this show is being cancelled!! It was the one show that my boys and I would watch together. There are so many stupid shows on TV. Why get rid of the one good show!

I’m so disappointed in Fox. I absolutely love RBS! I’ve gotten my whole family to fall in love with this show. I desperately wish Fox would bring the show back. It’s one of the best new shows on the air.

This was a great show…. I just don’t think it was advertised well. Most of my friends and family had never even heard of the show… and I myself stumbled onto it incidentally on my cables ON DEMAND channel one day. I truly believe this show would be a hit if more was done with public relations/ promotions.

RBS didn’t even get advertised as a show to watch. I agree with Christi- the show was never given a decent chance. And I agree with E CAS – take off the annoying Sunday night cartoons & put on shows that are family oriented like RBS. Very disappointed in Fox.

Please don’t cancel this show! I really really love this show. The only show I watch on Fox! Showing the friendship of these teenagers really touched me. I even had my husband watching this show. So bummed!
