ITV has cancelled Prime Suspect 1973 (aka Prime Suspect: Tennison) after one series, it has been confirmed.
The decision not to renew the prequel for Series 2 comes after a fallout with author Lynda La Plante who was replaced with another writer.
Starring Stefanie Martini as the young WPC Jane Tennison, the six-episode first (and now only) season charts the rise of the novice policewoman as she assists in her first murder investigation, revealing her first steps towards becoming the complex and formidable character that viewers have come to know.
On the cancellation of the drama, a source said:
“We’re very happy with the performance of Prime Suspect 1973 but not everything is meant to run and run.”
RIP.

Another home goal by ITV program commissioning
on the heels of the tragic decision to cancel Halcyon Hotel comes the shock decision to cancel Prime Suspect 73/ series 2
dear oh dear 🙁
what is the point of IVT commissioning great, Insightful, interesting, high quality TV series, with excellent dramatic performances by the whole cast – only to pull the plug without a thought for their ( presumably dwindling ) audiences
I suggest ITV stick with endless reality shows – at least they don’t cancel them ! !

Try bringing back the orginal, no one ever gets bored with Helen Miren, the orginal was a fantastic series, watched the first episode of the new one and it was what I would OKAY. but I am glad that there are 5 more to watch before it disappears.

I really liked Halcyon Hotel and thought Prime Suspect 1973 is as good as Endeavour. Seems less and less series to watch these days apart from Sky Atlantic.
