BBC One has renewed documentary show The Met for Series 3.
Official press announcement:
Following the second successful series of BBC One’s acclaimed The Met: Policing London from BBC Studios, viewers will once again follow Britain’s largest police force for a third series on BBC One.
Series two of BBC One’s popular observational documentary series, which aired earlier this summer, offered viewers behind the scenes access to an incredibly diverse range of policing, including; public disorder, prostitution, the increasing need for armed police on London streets, the inner workings of the drug trade, murder, the intricacies of neighbourhood policing, and the sexual abuse of vulnerable people.Series three will continue to offer unprecedented access to one of Britain’s most important institutions. With Cressida Dick taking the reins as the first female Commissioner in The Met’s 187 year history, the organisation’s constantly evolving role will be reflected across a series that will continue to reflect the scope and breadth of their work.
Emma Loach, Commissioning Editor, Documentaries, says: “The Met: Policing London continues to be the most watched police programme on any channel, which is a testament to its uncompromising look at one of Britain’s most vital services and the complex challenges they face.”
Aysha Rafaele, Creative Director, The Documentary Unit, BBC Studios, says: “The third series of The Met will continue to offer extraordinary insight into an endlessly fascinating organisation. We’re excited about the prospect of covering never-before-seen areas of policing and telling untold stories of a fast-changing police force.”
Cressida Dick, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, says: “The first two series of this documentary have opened our doors to millions of people telling diverse stories of how we police London and the amazing dedication of officers and staff.
“To police effectively we must be open, accountable and explain what we do and how we do it. This series has really got behind the headlines of policing and I am sure it has surprised and entertained as well as informing people about the complexities we face. A third series is an opportunity to show viewers the variety of work we do caring for victims, keeping the streets safe and locking up criminals.
“We have no editorial control – the BBC team will film us as they find us. This is important because the viewers must be able to trust the programme they see. Thank you in advance to those who open up their working life so the public get a real insight in to policing London’s streets.”
Made by BBC Studios, the series will continue to reflect the scale and complexity of The Met’s operations, offering new stories and an even greater range of dynamics as the organisation continues to evolve to reflect the demands of 21st century policing.
The Met was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Director, BBC Content, Clare Sillery, Head of Commissioning, Documentaries, and Emma Loach, Commissioning Editor, Documentaries.
The series will be executive produced by Aysha Rafaele, Creative Director, The Documentary Unit, BBC Studios.
