Girls defeated the cancellation reaper to end on its ‘own terms’ with a six season run, but will there be a spinoff?
EP Jenni Konner has poured ice on a Girls offshoot series, noting that the series finale represents the “spinoff that will never be,” per EW:
That was something Judd came up with fairly early while plotting the season: Episode 9 would be the traditional finale and then the 10th would be as if there was some imagined spin-off that will never be.
Specifically on whether there could be a spinoff with Andrew Rannells’ character, Elijah, she said:
That’s a big Twitter request. We’d do it in a heartbeat because he’s the most talented person on earth. But there are no plans for it. But please feel free to pitch it to HBO.
However, Konner appears to be more open to a Girls revival movie somewhere down the line:
People ask us in interviews, “Would you be open to a movie?” Of course we would! But that is as far as that rumor has gone. It’s not like there are any conversations happening. I also think it would have to be a little while. We couldn’t even do the finale without jumping in time a little. If we came back, there would have to be a good amount of time passed.
What did you think of the Girls series finale? Are you disappointed there are no plans for a spinoff series? Do you want a Girls revival movie?
