It’s official – Girls will end after Season 6. Lena Dunham has ‘cancelled’ her own show, confirming that the sixth season will the last in the series, per TVLine:
Are you ready to say goodbye to Hannah Horvath and her Girls?
Well, don’t worry, because you don’t have to be ready — at least not for another year. As star Lena Dunham has said in multiple interviews, the HBO comedy will be ending after Season 6, a source confirms to TVLine.
“It’s really exciting,” Dunham told radio host Elvis Duran in Sept. 2015. “I started working on this show when I was 23, and I’m going to be 30, so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world.”
While there had been talk of a potential seventh season, a six season run was always the most likely outcome.
News of Girls‘ year-long swansong also means the series as has, naturally, been renewed for the 2016-17 season.
The fifth and penultimate season of Girls premieres Feb 21 on HBO, before the series concludes with Season 6, slated for an early 2017 release.
RIP.
