Gilmore, which launched in 2000, ran for seven seasons and 153 episodes on The WB/CW, six of those under Sherman-Palladino before she exited following a contract dispute with the studio. A Netflix revival is Sherman-Palladino’s opportunity to not only return to her own series but also to have the final word.

I’ve mixed feelings about this. The series ended in a bit of a muddle and taking up from there will be confusing. Melissa McCarthy not coming along also hurts the continuity. Have to take a wait and see attitude.

Clearly it’s not going to be a straight pick-up from where it left off. Too many years have passed. There will have to be a bit of exposition for the intervening years so I don’t think it’s going to be that difficult to account for the missing.

Funny how most of these “revived” shows had a cast whose careers have been essentially stalled since the original series run. Not dead, but certainly they never went on to do many notable things. There are exceptions. However, it seems that as long as 80% of the cast REALLY needs some sort of cash influx, the series may get “revived”. I also find it a bit humorous because, while I never watched the original Gilmore Girls, I wouldn’t ever bother watching the “revival”. Not because I’m against the show or feel I inherently wouldn’t like it, but because there’s CLEARLY a history to it and I’m not about to go back and watch the original series run so why bother starting in the middle of a “revival”. So the audience, especially for these drama shows is kind of limited to a subset of the original audience that gives a hoot about new episodes 5, 10, 15 years later. I kind of think anyone waiting on these revivals should learn how to let things go a bit better. 🙂
I can not help but think money would be better spent elsewhere. But what to I know…. I don’t own Netflix.
(The most comical of all these “revivals” so far is the upcoming Fuller House. Full House was a HORRIBLE B-series when it originally aired. Do ANY of those people still have careers other than Stamos? Reviving Full House is like eating food out of a wet trash can… ewwwwww. )

An interesting thesis though not sure it applies here. Lauren Graham’s stint in Parenthood does not suggest to me that she was desperate for offers.
