Speaking backstage at the Emmys following their second straight win for Outstanding Drama Series, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss addressed talk of a possible prequel to HBO’s hit fantasy series.
“You might want to ask George about that,” Benioff said, gesturing to Thrones book author George RR Martin, who attended the awards show with them. “It’s a great world that George created. It’s a very rich world. I’m sure there will be other series set in Westeros. But for us, this is it.”

Unfortunately, much like the long wait for winter — and the even longer wait for the sixth book in Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series — don’t expect a prequel anytime soon. “At the moment, we still have this show to finish, and I still have two books to finish, so that’s all speculation,” Martin said.
