Following last night’s final episode of Desi Rascals, Sky Living is pleased to announce the series will return for a second instalment later in the year.
Created by Gurinder Chadha (Bend it like Beckham, Bride and Prejudice) and Tony Wood (TOWIE, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks), the non-scripted drama series from Buccaneer Media and Bend it TV has been commissioned for another 12 x 60 batch of Desi delights featuring our favourite multi-generational British-Asian families.
Breaking us into the New Year with a bang, customers have shared tears, seen romance blossom and have quite literally ‘bared’ witness to more muscles than you can shake a naked butler at. Drizzled in drama, glamour and fun, and served up with a Desi sized dollop of heart, the first series has also won over a dedicated online fan base. So with more still to come from the Shah’s, the Vara’s, Moses, Anj and others, and not to forget Owais’ ego, series two is set to be a stonker.
Celia Taylor, Head of Non Scripted, Sky commented: “I’m thrilled to confirm Desi Rascals will be returning for a second series, it’s really raised the bar for non-scripted drama. We’re very proud of the show which has attracted a loyal audience over the last six weeks due to its totally addictive nature and we look forward to re-joining the cast for more laughs, tears and heart-warming moments later in the year.”
Tony Wood and Gurinder Chadha commented: “It has been an absolute pleasure working on this show with Sky Living. Desi Rascals has made us laugh, cry and beam at the TV with pride. We have shown a reality to Britain that has never been seen before and series 2 will allow us to delve further into the captivating world of our families.”
With the show rooted in social media from the very start, this has allowed the cast to interact with fans in real time via a range of online platforms, with each episode then being directly influenced by how the cast and the audiences have reacted to what’s just happened. Hashtags such as #teamowais #mojo #shahshahshah have aided in creating online buzz throughout the series as the audience watched the lives of the gorgeous girls and AB-ulous boys unfurl on screen.
The full series is available now On Demand.
International distribution for Desi Rascals will be handled by Sky Vision.
