BBC has cancelled Crimewatch after 33 years.
A major coup for the reaper, the broadcaster has opted to axe the long-running series to ‘make room for new programmes’.
Addressing the decision to cancel the Jeremy Vine and Tina Daheley-hosted show, the BBC said:
“We are incredibly proud of Crimewatch and the great work it has done over the years. This move will also allow us to create room for new innovative programmes in peak time on BBC1.
However, Daytime spinoff series, Crimewatch Roadshow has survived the cull:
“Daytime show Crimewatch Roadshow will continue. We believe the successful Crimewatch Roadshow format in daytime is the best fit for the brand going forward and we will increase the number of episodes to make two series a year.”
RIP.
Rebecca Henderson says
This is really a travesty. Crime watch is an important show and web site that keeps the public informed on the people we should be most concerned about and who we need to watch out for.
