Bones is coming to an end, just not straight away.
FOX has renewed the procedural for an abbreviated 12th and final season, a decision that will enable producers to map out a “meaningful and satisfying conclusion,” according to Fox Co-Chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman.
In what is essentially a renewal and a delayed cancellation, Bones Season 12 will air its 12 episodes in the 2016-17 season, before heading off into the TV afterlife.
Executive producers and showrunners Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson, said via joint statement:
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have another season, so we can give the show, characters and fans the end they so richly deserve. Also knowing there is a Season 12, we can now write the most rewarding Season 11 finale possible — one we hope will leave our fans excited for what’s to come in this final season of Bones.”
Added series creator Hart Hanson:
“In times like these, marked by instability and doubt, it’s comforting to know the world can count on at least one dependable beacon of stability. Apparently, that beacon is Bones. It just shows what you can do with an amalgam of genius cast, amazing crew, cunning writers, stalwart studio, sweat, a tough economy, a mercurial network, determination, luck, magic, miracles and the most loyal audience in the world.”
Stay tuned for any potential updates should Bones one day be revived for Season 13…

Well, it’s like letting a member of the family “go.” It was safe and fun entertainment. I just wish more family/made for primetime shows like these would be in the mix with these current mindless reality, violent, scandalous and sex driven, boring story-written ones. Who are the ones making these decisions? Numbers can’t be the only driving factor, I know I can’t watch shows I like until I can fit it in my schedule so I save them for another date to watch. Maybe one cable network should just dedicate a channel for these shows separately. There are that do but they just air old shows from the 70s and so on. Just irritates me.

Isn’t that the truth. But Bones had a fantastic run, and we’ll always have the DVDs (and TNT reruns).

I feel the same way, because there are more sex than family drama shows

Ir seems today, that all you see…is violence in movies and sex on tv.

The reason it is probably being cancelled is because they put it on the same day and time as American Idol. You would think that FOX was smart enough to move the time or day but they never did (permanently). I could never find out when it was on again after 2 or 3 episodes. I would have NEVER chosen Idol over Bones. Shame on FOX

Why are FOX trying to take off good shows family shows and put other inappropriate programs for the whole family

This is a hard one to to deal with. I don’t want Bones to end. We always lose a Damm good show with good characters that keep us drawn into their story. Its funny, it’s exciting and they deal with real problems as well.

They killed of Sweets and that was one too many stabs to the heart.

True! I got behind on my episodes of Bones and I had like 10 episodes to go. I read that it was being cancelled so I just deleted them. Bones lost its appeal and it felt like the characters were just finding something to do with their time. I miss the Bones of season 1 when it had really great writing!
